Hatton Garden engagement ring

MissD2016, 9 October, 2016 at 17:07 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hello,

I'm hoping some of you can help! My OH and I have been talking about engagement rings for a while now. We've found a gorgeous 0.66 carat platinum ring from a high street shop, currently on sale from £3600 down to £1800. I can get a discount through my employer to make it around £1600. My OH's top budget is £1700.

BUT.....the diamond isn't certified. Is this a huge no-no?

We've been looking at websites for jewellers in Hatton Garden so we can get a diamond that is GIA certified, but we're not sure if we should bother to book a few appointments if the rings are well out of our budget.

We know we should be able to haggle, but do you think we can get a ring for £1700 in Hatton Garden?

We've made a list of the type of ring I'd like:

Solitaire style
Brilliant (round) cut
Platinum or Palladium
Colour - J minimum
Clarity - SI1/SI2 minimum
Cut - 'Good' minimum
Carat 0.50 minimum

Thanks xx

I think it depends on wether you are planning for it to hold value in the future to pass on to someone else or sell to be honest. That's all I know diamonds being certified anyway. My best friend is a jeweller and she would never have a diamond that isn't certified. Myself on the other hand was more about the sentimental aspect. Could have been a haribo ring for all I cared. Can't help more about Hatton garden though I'm afraid. I hope you find what you are after. Good luck.

Thanks - I certainly wouldn't sell it, but might possibly pass it down in the future (although I'm not sure the value would matter to me for this purpose - it's more the sentimentality aspect there)

    Try '77 Diamonds' in Mayfair.

    They're fantastic.

We got my engagement ring and both our wedding rings there.

    My engagement ring is:

    GIA Certified.

    Round Brilliant

    White Gold 18k

    Colour J

    Clarity VS1

    Cut Very good

    Carat 0.73

and it cost £1800. You book an appointment and give them an idea of what diamond you like. You go and view them all and pick your diamond, pick a band and your unique diamond ring is yours. I originally wanted Platinum but they advised White Gold as it doesn't get thinner when you get it replated whereas platinum does. Or something like that anyway.
I am completely in love with my ring and it's everything I'd want and more!! Go to them, they're fantastic. And you get 10% off your second order so we got a hefty £160 off our wedding rings.

Mine is being made bespoke so it's within our budget as you give them that upfront, it could be another option for you if there are any manufacturing jewelers near you.

Mine is solitaire, round cut, white gold. All else I know is that it is absolutely beautiful and sparkles and will be treasured always.

Sounds like a good deal if it was originally £3600!
