Heartburn tips?

4 May, 2012 at 21:49 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

This seems to be something I've acquired with age - I never even suffered with it when I was pregnant. I know there's medicine and tablets and Gaviscon and what not but has anyone got any other tips as to how to avoid/cure/ease?

Milk is good in the short term, BUT beware that it also stimulates stomach acid production. So after the initial relief, can make heartburn worse.

I find eating sitting up (as in not on the sofa) helps and remaining upright for a good hour or so after helps the most. Some nights I sleep propped up with pillows if I'm getting quite bad acid reflux. Gaviscon really is quite good though, and definitely worth having in your cupboard for emergencies.

I find Gavilast tablets the best - even better than Gaviscon.

Might be worth trying to figure out what's causing it, if its that bad. Maybe do a food diary & mark when you get the heartburn to see if there is something causing it
