Heavier partners - bed question?

sherry, 27 June, 2008 at 10:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

Wasnt sure how to phrase this without seeming rude, but it's not meant to be.

Does anyone have any experience of a silentnight bed? or any other bed for that matter? My partner is larger than I am. Most of the time when i'm asleep i've been 'dead to the world' so to speak. Now i'm pregnant i'm not sleeping aswell. When OH turns over in the night, I wake up because of the movement. He isn't overly heavy just i'm not sleeping aswell. Someone suggested a silentnight bed but i'm not sure it will make a difference.

I'm no little chick either and I doubt he'll like to be refered to as a Hippo but does it work?

?

Would a memory foam matress be a better option?

My sister works for Dreams and she's told me that Silent Night matresses aren't very good. We have one and its really saggy and not that old. She bought us a memory foam mattress topper for christmas (no doubt using her discount!) and its fantastic, so comfortable and has stopped us noticing the mattress flaws.

Is your mattress pocket sprung or coil sprung?

We used to have a coil sprung mattress, where all the springs are linked together, so if either me or H moved it would move all the springs IYSWIM.

We've now got a pocket sprung and it's much, much better. I think that the difference is that all the springs are individual, so if you move it only moves the ones you're laying on.

We got it from Dreams, I think just over £400 for a king-size. I found them really helpful when we went in there.

I would go for a memory foam mattress. they work in an entirely different way, and when your partner turns over, you don't know about it

oooh ? I'm not sure what kind of springs we have now but suspect they are linked. We only bought the bed in January ? Maybe i'll try a mattress toper and see if that helps.

MrJMP is rather large - We have a zip & link bed. It's two 3.5ft matresses together with a topper on top so you don't get a ridge. His side is more firmer than mine.

With the bed you don't get that dip where the heavier person lays.

You want a pocket sprung mattress - the more springs the better. We have the same problem, my H doesn't roll over, he bounces up and down. I hardly feel a thing now we've bought a 2000 spring pocket sprung ortho mattress.

When we bought out last mattress h2b wanted a silent night one but the guy in the shop also said they weren't that good. He said the strings compress in the middle and they don't last that long.

Mr K is a quite a bit heavier than me and a real fidget-arse in bed. We have a memory foam mattress and I don't feel a thing when he moves about.

If they could invent a mattress that stopped his snoring we'd be all set.

Definately go for a memory foam mattress or just the topper, we have one and i never get disturbed by OH's fidgeting in his sleep.
