Help! 6 weeks to plan a wedding - need village venues near Leeds?

SunnyIvoryDecor54, 25 September, 2013 at 00:27 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hello!

My chap and I are trying to organise our wedding from scratch for 6 weeks' time on a shoestring budget (my mum is very poorly) and venues are proving a problem... Does anyone know of nice country pubs, village halls, self-catering places that might be worth a look? We're after a big bring-and-share buffet and a ceilidh - we're going for a laid back, village kind of a feel, nothing too formal.

Any and all advice most supergratefully received!

Welcome to hitched! Northorpe Hall is just outside Leeds, worth contacting them as they have nice looking barn that they hire out.

Oakwell hall country park - a country house and a barn they hire out can do your own food and drink!

Northorpe hall mirfield as someone mentioned

Gomersal lodge ... they have a large marquee they hire out!

Have you thought about finding a nice holiday cottage to hire for a weekend? That might be a possibility to add to your searches.

Also, where are you planning on actually getting legally married?

I live in Morley - I haven't been in either of these or contacted them so I can't vouch for them but they might be worth a look.

Here's a list of halls suitable for children's parties: not sure what any are like for weddings but a starting point perhaps... http://www.netmums.com/leeds/local/index/parties/halls Good luck in your hunt. Sorry to hear about your Mum x

Not sure whereabouts you are but the cricket club in Pudsey has a function room and you don't have to use their caterers (just the bar i think).

I second Blenheim house, it looks gorgeous from the outside but again not been in.

also The Calverley arms is a stunning pub that might be another option

Hi there my friends got married at East Keswick village hall last month, they decorated it all themselves with bunting and it looked great! About 20 mins outside Leeds! They organised their own food and had a fish and chips from a mobile fish and chip van which was a real novelty! It was on budget but had a real charm to it!

I was originally looking for something like this (but ended up going for a hotel in ilkley for the ease of it). I visited Queens Hall in Birley in Wharfedale, but although they used to have a wedding license they don't now

    https://www.bradford.gov.uk/bmdc/leisure_and_culture/venues/queens_hall_burley

I liked that it had a balcony and think a ceilidh would be nice, though there isn't really any outside space and my dad hated the recycling bins around the back (don't ask!)

The barn at esholt looked ok, but it is upstairs so if you have anyone with access needs that could be an issue.

I never visited east keswick village hall, but it did look good on the internet Smiley winking

Thorner has a village hall, that again I didn't look at but it might work for you, though looking at their calendar they might be pretty busy in the next 6 weeks.
