Help - A venue that lets you bring your own catering??

acd, 26 November, 2009 at 15:56 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi,

I'm getting married in Hampshire next year, near petersfield, and want to do my own catering (my sister is a chef) but all the venues seem to tie you into either having it in house or using their recommended caterers (presumably because they have some kind of reciprocal arrangement!).

Does anyone know of anything that allows you to bring your own food and drink? I've looked at everything from swanky barns/hotels to cricket clubs and village halls; the latter is only tricky when trying to find one that is nice enough!!

Help ladies...thank you!

I know the Manor Barn ask you to use their caterers, but I'm not sure about the Tithe Barn at Ditcham? I did a wedding there recently where the bride and groom supplied their own booze, so there may be some leverage with the caterers too? Have a look at www.tithe-barn.co.uk.

Thanks both - sadly both the tithe barn and manor barn (as you say bygeorge) make you use their own caterers.

Kim - thanks for your suggestions too - duncton mill also tie you in but i'm going to look into the walled garden suggestion - looks beautiful.

All other suggestions/experiences greatfully received ladies - thanks xxx

That's a shame! Is it somewhere that needs to be licensed for a civil ceremony, or just for the reception?

Just the reception - we're having a church ceremony near petersfield, hence the need for the reception venue to be within shooting distance. So tricky!

Conford Village Hall near Liphook looks pretty, but tiny. Or Ditcham Park School?

Great thanks - i'll check it out in person sometime soon. I only found this picture - did you find it through something else?

    http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/01/11/56/1115601_4a5de2c3.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1115601&usg=__DokEYHvkwjTbz-sx8nMgfNvnMfY=&h=360&w=640&sz=62&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=26AbSU0oVsPaAM:&tbnh=77&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dconford%2Bvillage%2Bhall%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1

Ditcham park school is a good idea - i've already tried beadles near Petersfield and whilst they were really helpful, they didn't have the dates available.

    Thanks again.

Bury Court, near Farnham and Bartholemew Barn in Kirdford used to allow you to supply your own caterers.

I'm not sure if they still do, as they have approved caterers now, but you could ask.

Gate Street Barn in Bramley WILL allow you to use your own, but they charge £1000 for the privelidge.

Friends of mine recently found somewhere that was a beautiful location and knocked on the door and asked to put up a marquee. They agreed a price for the rental of the ground and car park etc but it worked wonderfully. They didn't sell any booze so no licence and you can host up to 18 large parties per annum without planning.

So maybe have a drive around petersfield and see if any fot the bill!!

Are you sure the Tithe Barn make you use their own caterers? Our friends got married there a couple of years ago and they definitely didn't have that restriction: in fact that was the very reason they chose that venue. If it has been introduced recently, why not just negotiate with them? I doubt many places would turn down a booking for the sake of a little bit of commission off some ropey in-house caterer.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone. We've found 2 venues to choose from, both of which are beautiful old buildings run by villages - so really reasonable costs and then avoiding the crazy charges of those venues who want £3-4+ just for you to walk in the door!! Thanks again. ?

    Hi ACD,

I'm getting married in Emsworth and noticed you'd found a couple of good venues near you in Petersfield, so I'm wondering if you could let me know where they are?

Thank you and I'm glad you've narrowed down your search.
