Help! Candle problems

slewts, 10 May, 2011 at 08:57 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi, I'm almost there with my wedding decoration, and thought I'd found a bargain in Ikea on Sunday but am having a problem! I saw they sold 4 spice jars for £2 and thought they would fit a tea light in nicely. I was planning on doing an 'escort card' idea rather than seating plan so was going to tie ribbon round the neck with a luggage-type label with each person's name and table number / name so I bought 80 of the pesky jars. When I got home I realised they don't quite fit tealights inside! They sit in the neck of the jar but won't squash down into it. I bought the pink scented tealights from Ikea to go in them, and was wondering if anyone knew of slightly smaller than normal tealights. I don't want to have to take the jars back as they were such a bargain!

Thanks

Sarah x

How wide are the candles you have? There's a site called onestopcandleshop.co.uk who sell 40mm tealights, but that won't help if that's the same size as the ones you have already!

If you can't get smaller ones you could make your own with liquid wax which sets solid?

Thanks for the advice, will go and measure the ones I've got when my two terrors aren't trashing the house! Might look into making my own but I'm getting married in 3 weeks so not much time (only started planning wedding 6 weeks ago). I wonder if they would fall apart if I took them out of the metal case...

Wow I didn't realise you were so tight on time.

You must be very organised to be able to plan a wedding in that amount of time! I'd be horribly stressed ?.

Otherwise - could you try shaving some off? If you only needed a teeny bit,

That's good, I am glad to see I'm not the only one taking on a relocation and wedding at the same time. I don't have LOs though so it's much easier for me I guess.

Good luck with the making them fit, it's all about the positive thinking... ?

The tea light's should come out of their wee foil cases easily, then you may be able to shave a little off each side.

Making your own would be fab but I know you are tight for time. It would be a matter of getting a wick with a metal base, inserting in jar then pouring wax in around it, but maybe one of these things that is easy on paper, but when you try it....

I've just taken the casing off and it just fit in. I'm just burning one now to see what happens when all the wax melts. Hopefully I won't burn the house down!
