Help! Damaged phone battery was smoking!

Phone battery started smoking, rightly or wrongly i put it outside and doused it in water (i know, I'm an ***** but panic) - it smoked and bubbled but now it has stopped and its just sat on the ground. I'm worried it could still go bang... can anyone tell me if its still likely to catch fire??

    Leave it outside and if you can put in a bucket or box of sand, am sure it will be fine though

    I've put it in a metal burning bin in the middle of the garden for now just incase. Its stone cold so hopefully it'll be ok! x
