Help - Getting married in Las Vegas,

fallows22, 1 July, 2010 at 21:37 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 9

Hi

I am wondering if anybody can offer any advice.

Me and my partner are going to Las Vegas for my 30th birthday and have decided to marry while we are there although we haven't booked anything yet!

I understand that you have to buy a marriage licence from the marriage bureau, do you also get a marriage certificate or do you buy this separate, also what happens with legalities when you get back to the UK are you classed as married i.e can I take my husband's name?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi

Just a word of warning without trying to put you off your ideas......we went on Honeymoon to Vegas which as ACE and could never have wanted anything better.....However whilst over there we must have seen approx 6 weddings per day. Not just in one hotel but part of our hol was spent at the Luxor Hotel which was a lovely hotel even though not the most expensive. One night we were ready to go out for the night and in the foyer a limo drove up with a bridal party then about 2 mins later another bridal party... very strange. there were bridesmaids, mothers of the bride etc etc walking thru casinos carrying wedding cakes. One bride we got talking to was sat playing the slot machines only having been married a couple of hours and had no idea where her hubby was.

It is very extravagant and cheesy all in one so just be aware of the fact that you might be one of several brides in any one venue. In terms of the legal aspects - sorry can't help but I thought that if all was done ok then you would automatically take husband's name if you wished.

    Hi!

I have recently got married in Las Vegas. Hopefully I can help.

You basically go to the Marriage Bureau before you plan to get married (be prepared to wait - It can get busy) They have the forms and pens sitting out for you to fill in. You just fill one in each and supply 1 form of ID - best with passport I think. $60 and that's it!

They give you documentation away with you, and take it to your ceremony. From there the officiant will complete and return to the marriage beaureau (this must be done by them within 10 days)

They will give you an information sheet away with you, which contains all the details necessary to obtain your marriage certificate. I think it costs $15 to get it sent to you. But you will need this to officially change your details. You are legally married.

I may have had a different experience from He11y, but in a fortnight in Vegas, in and out of hotels, I saw only 2 brides. One in the Venetian and one on Freemont street.

If I can help anymore, gimme a shout!

There are also millions of venues off the strip if you want to get married off the strip - I am planning on getting married there in May 2012 and we are looking at venues outside the chapel and hotel venues. I cant wait I know 2 people who have got married in vegas and they loved it!!

One of my very best friends just got married in Vegas and they had about 8 other friends there to accompany them. Basically they invited around 15 people and those that came were the bride and groom and the others were those who could afford it. Anyway, they said that it was a blast and everything seemed to go perfectly according to plan. Last weekend, (a week after the wedding) they had a huge (500 person) reception back at home.

    Thanks Kirstin.

Well we have booked it and am now on count down. We booked The Chapel of Flowers which on the web looks OK. Where did you marry, and what did you make of the whole experience?

There is only going to be the 2 of us which I find scary but exciting.

Did you take your own dress with you?

Any more details of things to see or any places you would recommend would be really helpful.

    Hiya,

we got married in the chapel of the flowers! I loved it! The staff were amazing!

I took my own dress, you can get boxes from ebay for about £12 which fit in overhead compartments of airoplane.

Drop me an email at ***************@*****.*** and I'll help out if I can! xxx

10 things to remember when getting married in Las Vegas

Holidays:Keep holidays in mind when choosing your Las Vegas wedding date. Valentine's Day is a hugely popular date for weddings in Las Vegas, and while it might seem romantic, you may change your mind after waiting in line for a wedding chapel for up to five hours. New Year's Eve is another busy wedding day in Las Vegas.

Weather:Las Vegas has beautiful, sunny weather most of the year. However, even though the summer months are popular for weddings, the weather here can be extremely hot and downright uncomfortable if you're dressed in a tuxedo or a long, heavy gown. The hot sun can melt everything from the bride's makeup to the icing on the wedding cake.

The dress:Since Las Vegas has no waiting period for getting married, spur-of-the-moment weddings are a common occurrence. So where can you find a wedding dress with only a couple of hours notice? There are several places in Vegas that actually rent wedding dresses. Who wants to spend $2,000 on a dress you're only going to wear once anyway? etc..............

    Thanks Kirstin,

We are planning to get married in 2011 and more over in Las Vegas. Your experience gives us a fair bit of idea about LV.

    Hopefully these can help us.

    Thks.

I am also looking forward to my friend getting married next year. They also want to do it in Las Vegas. Im just not sure what I should get them...I saw this amazing dining table I linked up here. And the question is how should I give it to them if they are in the US? A voucher seems so corny Smiley sad
