Help... having trouble choosing the song to walk down the aisle to! *Updated page 2*

Missmadgiggles, 1 July, 2013 at 20:46 Posted on Planning 0 27

Music is massively important to me... i love indie, folk, alternative styles of music, but will consider anything, however I am really struggling to choose something to walk down the aisle to. Everything i pick either my OH hates or i find its completely unsuitable. Some choices were:-

Queen - Killer Queen (about a high class prostitute.. so no)

Green Day - Time of your life (beautiful song, about a break up...so no)

Anything by the vitamin string quartet (my OH hates them - I loved their version of Muse - starlight)

I really don't want anything to romantic or soppy as thats not my style, but it just seems that everything I think of is inappropiate or too fast and bouncey to walk down the aisle to. Do any of you have any good ideas?

Exit music is sorted thou... Mr Blue Sky - ELO.

I was thinking of having something from the vitamin string quartet. I'd quite like 'accidentally in love' by the Counting Crows to walk out to but OH is unsure about the 'accidentally' bit. My argument is you don't fall in love with someone on purpose do you?

I'm walking down the aisle to the instrumental version of Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles played on the piano. My other two songs are Get Happy by Judy Garland and Love and Marriage by Sinatra - they all sound good on the piano. I didn't want anything too soppy either.

I really struggled with this too; especially as ours is a registry office wedding and I'll have all of about 20 seconds to make my entrance...!

I've settled on 'Love Spreads' by the Stone Roses. It's got a kick-ass intro and the word 'Love' in the title. Job done.

I really want to walk down the aisle to Katy Perry's Teenage Dream. But this has been veto'd by my boyfriend and my mother. Apparently a wedding is a serious occasion and calls for an instrumental piece. I had no idea it was a serious occasion. Thank goodness they told me that. Smiley smile

    Still want Katy Perry.

Thank you all for your opinions and suggestions... am leaning towards Here Comes the Sun - Beatles (thank you whoever it was that reminded me of that track), or the hawaiian version of Somewhere over the Rainbow.

I did also have the crazy idea of using the theme tune from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - a track called Jounrey of the Sorcerer by the Eagles. Has a nice rise and fall to it and I've always loved it. Only problem is that its only 1 minute 16 secs long (well the version I want to use is, the original eagles track is over 6 minutes but I don't like it as much).... might have to go and work out how long it'll take for me and my bridesmaid to get down the aisle.

We also need to decide on this, ours will probably be either Here comes the sun or In my life by the beatles, but in my life is maybe a 1st dance suggestion so could be anything really. Other contenders are The white stripes, Muse, Red hot chili peppers, Queen, 30 seconds to mars, Greenday, Radiohead..list is probably endless actually lol.

Love the Mr Blue Sky for the exit Smiley smile

It is so hard isn't it? Love your exit song by the way!

We eventually settled on First Day of my Life, Bright Eyes to walk down to (H2B's pick) and You're my Best Friend, Queen for the exit (my pick). Don't forget your 'signing the register' music - can't quite make up our minds on that yet, though.

Having a religious ceremony and the music choices are pretty strict and looks like we're limited to hymns or classical.

Walking down to "The Entrance Of The Queen Of Sheba".

Leaving with the traditional wedding march.

Wish we had a bit more to choose from though, at my cousin's wedding, they left the ceremony to 'Consider Yourself' from Oliver and it was perfect!

Hmmmm.... I have to admit I'm somewhat of a hapless romantic. Just this morning watched the wedding dvd for the first time and bawled as soon as the GUESTS entrance music was playing lol!

Bms walked in to 'Somewhere in time' soundtrack, I entered to At Last by Etta James then we funked it up with a dance back down the aisle with our 5 children following us, to Stevie Wonder Signed, Sealed, Delivered!

It was Ace, all of it!! :0)

Have you spoken to your vicar about options for music?

We have just got married in a very large, very old church and there was no question- we said what we wanted, BIL put it allows on a CD and the vergers played it all on cue perfectly.... The church team loved our choices. :0)

    I was thinking of having

Vide Cor Meum for walking in (it is 4.20 long but we all arrive on the same train together so could be played whilst the guests are getting seated and whilst I talk to the registrar) It's from Hannibal (one of my favourite films)

Ava Maria by Maria Ferrante for signing the register. It's from Hitman (one of my favourite computer games)

Eyes On Me by Taylor Davis & Lora De Wit for the register too. It's from Final Fantasy 8 (yes another computer game I like)

The two above are 6.14 and 4.45 long, so that's nearly 11 minutes to sign the register and have photos with it - Is that too long/not long enough?

I'm not sure about our exit song - it won't take long to walk out. I will have to get OH to have a think, seeing as I chose the rest. (I would have liked I'm a believer, but it doesn't really fit with the rest of the music)

Ours is a Registry Office do..

Walking in to = It had to be you - Doris Dar

Incidental music in middle - I belong to you - Anastasia and Eros Ramazotti; Love - Natalie Cole; Lady (instrumental on sax) - James E Green (go look him up on youtube; Never Tear us Apart - Tom Jones and Natalie Imbruglia; Bring me Sunshine - Morecambe and Wise... not sorted order out yet but, cutting music in, that comes to around 15 mins so prob a little too long but it can be faded out.

Walking out - need somebody to love - Blues Brothers (with the talking bit in too Smiley smile )

Well after a week of deliberating we have finally settled on our ceremony music:-

Coming in to:- Together in Electric Dreams by Phil Oakey

Signing the register to:- Tonight Tonight by The Smashing Pumpkins, LOV by Fitz and the Tantrums, Winter Winds by Mumford and Sons and Don't Stop Me Now by Queen.

Leaving to:- Mr Blue Sky by ELO

Thank you for all your suggestions, they helped confirm the fact that we should just choose tunes we love!

Before we decided on a church wedding, I'd picked my walking down the aisle song as the Beatles "I will"...instrumental for walking down then proper version for walking back up.

As it now happens, we're def having a church wedding so now need to pick churchy music!

Love your song choice for walking back up tho!!

I walked in to 'Concerning hobbits' from Lord of the rings- most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. Register signing to a Sigur ros song which I most definitely can't spell and walked out to Buddy Holly, Every day.
