Help make my bridesmaid dresses more "bridesmaid-y"!

SunnyRedFlowers95045, 29 August, 2020 at 17:04 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi all!

My first post on here, hope everyone is okay!

We aren't getting married until 2022, couldn't decide 2021 or '22 but with so many weddings being postponed to next year we figured we will wait, gives us more time to save too!

I have always liked multi-way dresses for the flexibility it gives the bridesmaids. I have bought one on ebay to have a play with for cheap (less than £20) but I imagine the quality isn't going to be amazing. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I could do to make it more "Bridesmaid-y"? For example, I'm thinking of maybe adding a slip dress underneath, or making a tulle underskirt to make it puff out a bit more A-line esque?

Just wondering if anyone else has bought a dress and added to it to make it look better/fit with a wedding.

Thanks all Smiley smile

I have shot many weddings with multi-way dress bridesmaids and there hasn't been any desire to try and change them. Remember, when the dresses are also in the colour scheme and your bridesmaids all have their hair done and carrying flowers they will look every bit the Bridesmaid-y dresses that you are after.

I wore a multiway dress for my sister's wedding a few years ago - it was great as all of the bridesmaids could wear it how they felt comfortable. We were given permission (no jokes!) to add certain things to help decorate it - my beaded belt was given the green light and just added a little sparkle to it Smiley smile

Whilst I wouldn't have added anything further than the beaded belt and a little jewellery, I'm also going to have a multiway dress as my wedding dress! For that, I have been thinking about an underskirt, but haven't made my mind up yet.

The most important thing about the real dresses is the quality - buy good quality ones for the real dresses, because it is so true that they can be used afterwards again and again. I use my bridesmaid's one as a posh frock for occasions now.

Our original dresses came from Two Birds, but I’m not sure they’re doing them in the UK any more. My wedding dress one is from a UK company called Willow and Pearl. They are good quality and have lots of colour choices, so I’d recommend them ?

Fab, thank you. They look amazing. They’re quite expensive - I’d been thinking of spending less on bridesmaid dresses but only just started thinking about it so not sure if I’ve under budgeted for them.

They are cheaper than my original bridesmaid dress from my sister’s wedding, I’m fairly sure of that. As my bridesmaids are all children, I know I won’t have to budget for their dresses (parents have already agreed to pay!), but if yours are adults, you can’t go wrong with a good quality dress that they can use after the wedding!

Whatever you go for, good luck finding what you want ?

Oh wow, may need to look at rebudgeting then! Yes, quality reusable sounds like the best option. Thanks for the help!
