Help - need help with mum's 60th birthday gift

lobster, 3 November, 2008 at 16:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

It's my mum's 60th birthday on Saturday and I've been so busy helping my sister organise a surprise party that I totaly forgot about a present. So what can I get her that's great but can be bought in NYC in the next 3 days before I fly out?

She's quite young and trendy for her age, likes good food and wine, going on cruises, jigsaws and reading. Likes to be pampered but doesn't have a bath in the house.

Oh I'm quite glad you said cruises as I'm buying my mum that for her 60th (fingers crossed) if I get paid in the next couple of weeks!

    What's your budget?

Hadn't really thought about budget I guess a few hundred. I thought of getting her the creme de la mere starter set but that could wind up starting a very expensive habbit for her - plus I've bought her good face stuff before and was thinking of something longer lasting.

Other thoughts have included a digital camera although my Dad already has a very good one, a year of flowers (ie a bouquet every month) and good cognac (although that's what I got my Dad for his 60th and there's evey chance someone else will go for this)

Are you saying she needs lots of the stuff ?

Does she like chocolate? H bought me a membership to the hotel chocolat thingy and I got a big box once a month for a year. They were fab but I didn't eat nearly enough of them as he didn't like them (he isn't a fan of chocolate). Also HC have gorgeous looking "room service" hampers

What about a night or 2 in a nice hotel or a night with a pamper package? Voucher for a local restaurant? A hamper with flowers, champagne or a foodie hamper?

She's a wierdo in that she's not bothered about chocolate!

By longer lasting I meant something she can keep - she was obsessed with me having something I could keep for my 21st when what I wanted and needed was a sofa! I also failed to see how that wouldn't last for at least a fair bit!
