Help please!!

Can you ask wherever you are having your meal to make it extra special for you? Would they allow some decorations at your table for instance? I am sure that if they know that you are spending your special day with them, they would love to get involved!

Are you having a wedding car? There are some companies out there who do vintage vehicles which will seat up to 7 people. I am sure that there are plenty of companies out there who would do you special Covid-rates!

How about decoratinng your house for the big day? Any decs you make now can be reused for your celebration in the future. I made floral garlands using eucalypus garlands and faux flowers from The Range and Home Bargains. I have also made some hanging hoops and Bride and Groom chair signs. These could be used in the restaurant and for your future celebration very easily. See the pics in the DIY Brides thread, they didn't take me very long. I used spray paint from B&Q (Hammerite Bright Copper), a hot glue gun I already owned (Wilko, about £8) and the flowers as before.

As we have over a year to wait (again!) to our big day, I am planning on hanging the Bride and Groom signs on the wall over the head of our bed until I need them again.

If you would like a wedding cake, lots of the supermarkets and M&S do very reasonable celebration cakes. We are going to use a 4 tier fruit cake from M&S next year, and it works out at £138 for all 4 tiers, which is less than 1 small one from a cake specialist! Cake is cake is cake, and I love a bargain! You can buy each tier separately, so you can have just enough for now. We got some of their taster cakes to try and they were all good. I'm planning on putting our tiers on vintage cake stands which I already own. These will be sat on piles of books reflecting our interests, and I have found a very talented sugar craft lady who can create bespoke toppers for each cake for around £7 each (cats, caravan, steam train and archaeology dig!)

How about making your own dried petals confetti? I have been experimenting with roses from our garden, found a YouTube tutorial, very simple. Cost zero to make.

Tip for you, Roses tend to smell funny when dried. I'm saving dried petals for next year and I have found that the best ones are pretty much anything but roses dry so well, especially sweet peas, and of course lavender.

Thanks for the heads up on the roses! Gutted, as I just wanted to use what was in our garden already. Have got some lavender and sweet peas so will try those.

Just lay the petals on paper and leave in your window, they dry out in no time and no need to use the oven or microwave! x

We’re getting next month as well. There are a few more of us (20) and we’re making the most of the low numbers by organising special pics of different groups to get a really personalised photo. My best women and I are getting a pic in a local rose garden, the boys are being photographed with a pint in the beer garden etc.
I’ve been drying roses for confetti fire a year now as was making it for 75 guests at the church. We’re not using it in vases for a pretty table decoration. We haven’t noticed a funny smell but have used a rose essential oil if we want to make it smell particularly lovely if we’re having friends for dinner. It wasn’t expensive.

We got married earlier this month in a local church - it was decorated with garden flowers provided by a couple who attended the church and looked beautiful - the only flowers we paid for were our bouquet and buttonhole. We had a photographer who managed to get some great pictures even with social distancing. We asked our original reception venue if we could possibly use their garden for our couple photos, even though we have had to cancel our reception and they agreed.

I don't think you really need many 'trimmings' to make the day special - just the fact that you are getting married to your best friend is special enough!
