HELP PLEASE! Large low budget wedding in Birmingham/Midlands/Warwickshire area??

Rosalita, 7 January, 2014 at 22:43 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi everyone!

I got engaged on Christmas Day and have just joined Hitched Smiley smile

I would be so grateful for any advice you can give me. We are planning to get married in July or August 2015 and have a budget of around £7,000 (at an absolute push £11,000 if we save like crazy over the next 18 months).

I've already decided to buy a dress from China, do handmade invitations and ditch things like favours. The issue is, whilst we don't mind having just family and bridemaids/best man at the ceremony itself, we both have quite a large network of friends and it looks like we'll have 150 for the daytime and 200 in total for the evening reception!

Does anyone have recommendations of any nice but fairly inexpensive venues in the Birmingham/Midlands/Warwickshire area with space for this many people, or any ideas on how we can keep the cost of food down? We don't mind if we have to do things a bit differently i.e. not have a sit down meal/have a buffet/BBQ/hog roast etc.

We would also consider renting a marquee if that would work out cheaper; has anyone out there got any experience of that? I'd just worry about the weather putting a real dampener on the celebrations!

The main things that are important to us are that we really would like to be able to invite 150-200 people, keep our guests happy with enough food and drink and dance the night away ideally until 2 or 3am.

Not too much to ask I hope?!

Any advice/tips/ideas/recommendations will be VERY gratefully received Smiley smile

Thank you so much x

I am trying to think of somewhere that accommodates those numbers and I'm struggling. I know this venue https://www.castlebromwichhallhotel.co.uk/hotel-special-offers has a new suite opening soon that caters for 150 but you'd have to then ask about the extra for the evening as they might have a limit.

I think the Belfry caters for up to 300 here http://www.thebelfry.co.uk/weddings-events/weddings/ and it has just had a refurb.

If I think of anymore I will let you know.

Midweek tends to be cheaper, than weekends so if the important people are all fairly local.

Sometimes, if you have a later wedding, you can get away with only an evening buffet for all guests - but check on what you're venues basic price - hotels can often include a wedding breakfast in the price, but if you can find plenty of places that let you cater yourself.

You may find that venue that needs more work from yourself/family would be more likely to help with decoration etc. The hotels near me had cut off times far before 2am for music - so check music licences before you book (although I am in a far more rural areas than you)

Thanks so much both of you!

I will take a look at those venues...

And yes, having a later ceremony could be a good idea so we only have to feed people once! I thought the late bar licence might prove tricky; if we have to end at midnight it's not the end of the world but I have a lot of people coming up from London who I know would love to party into the early hours - as I would too Smiley smile Sadly that also means mid-week is out as all the Londoners would probably head off early to get home.

It's not easy is it? So much to consider!

Thanks again for your help x

    Hi All

We recently had our reception at Pype Hayes Golf Club and as they put on such a brilliant day for us, we wanted to let others know about this place. We got married at The Abbey in Erdington. When we were first looking at venues we were on a tight budget so we looked at hiring a village hall and bringing in our own caterers. However, we sort of stumbled across Pype Hayes Golf Club by chance and went to have a look around. We went on dry day so went and sat in the decked area outside and were pretty much sold on the views alone. Rachelle and Joanne who do the weddings there looked after us from the start and they put on the perfect day for us. The food was incredible and the staff were brilliant for the whole day. They catered to our every need and the whole day was so relaxed. We had 118 daytime guests and about another 40 on the night. Our guests absolutely loved it. We have a little girl as well so the day was quite child friendly and they loved running around in the open space. I would highly recommend anyone in the Birmingham area having a look at this place. We couldn't be more grateful for the day they put on for us!

    Hi,

Firstly congratulations!! I would suggest looking at a couple of places in Meriden. The Manor hotel will hold your numbers, is such good value for money, they are really flexible and helpful and if you are staying there, the residents bar stays open as long as you keep drinking! There's also the Forest of Arden which again will hold your numbers and is really flexible... So much choice and you can mix and match food/drink. There is also Stonebridge golf club, but I'm not sure that will hold your numbers. The one thing I will say though is that they should all work with your budget as they do not lock you into a set package and you can pretty much pick the bits you want and don't have to have the bits you don't, which will all help with your budget.

Hope you enjoy the venue search Smiley smile
