Help Please x Wedding venue needed for less than 20 people, UK or abroad x

djfrost, 5 August, 2015 at 15:59 Posted on Planning 0 17

❤️ Hi All

Please can you help me, I am looking for a wedding venue for less than 20 guests, I still want it to be beautiful and special, as I am flying out my immediate family from NZ - but I have only found a few venues which really fit this. I don't mind if it is in the UK or abroad.

Searching online for intimate or bijou - and I get things for a 300 person reception!

Also of course, don't want us all to be rattling around in a big room

thank you for all your help xxxx

I sort of echo, Laplands question, where about in the country would you prefer? what sort of wedding are you after i.e., sit down meal or buffet?

If you are after the country house/ stately home type of venue I know of one wedding venue in South Staffordshire called Hilton Hall. It is like a country house but on a small scale for up to 60 people. From looking at the pics on their website I think if the tables are arranged in a certain way it would look lovely and not too big for less than 20 people. Again from the pics it looks like there is nice grounds with lakes for photos etc.

I have not been there but the photos look lovely. I've added the link below.

Ours fits up to 20 people. It's the Garden Room at Greywalls in Gullane, East Lothian (in Scotland). We are having our ceremony outside in their stunning gardens if weather permits, and dinner in the Garden Room, otherwise it will all be in the Garden Room with drinks reception in the Drawing Room while they get the Garden Room ready for the dinner.

I can share pictures if you're interested. This is their website: http://greywalls.co.uk/

I recently photographed a small wedding at Oulton Hall which is a 5 star hotel near Leeds. It's about 30 min transfer time from Leeds Bradford Airport.

If you'd like to see the photos just send me a message via my website as Hitched messaging does not work.

Another venue I can recommend for small weddings is Ashmount country house in Haworth. They have about 20 bedrooms and you can marry in a folly in the garden.

Obviously I'm gonna suggest Gretna Green! The Original Marriage Room at the Famous Blacksmiths Shop where we got married holds up to 25 guests I think. You can see some pics in my report if you'd like.

I have to recommend our venue. We get married there two weeks today. Our party is 19 including ourselves.

If you want you can have the place to yourself - one night including all 13 rooms is under £4000 which includes locally sourced organic food, flowers etc. Its really cute and intimate. Near to Rye on the south coast. Mary is brilliant.

Its not everyone's idea of a wedding venue but we can't wait!

You might like to contact some of the registry offices, I know our local one's have small rooms, I'm in Dorset, so I'm referring to Bournemouth and Poole. The registry office may be able to suggest places for you?

There are a couple of lighthouses in Wales that are gorgeous and small - I think they are called Nash and Usk lighthouses, we considered them but went for something a teeny bit bigger in the end. Good luck with your search!

Just throwing a little vote for our venue - Danson House in Welling, just outside London. Beautiful venue with rooms to suit most size weddings and gorgeous grounds too ?

If you're after something a little different, Cley Windmill in Norfolk is lovely and intimate for up to 22 guests. Seen some wedding photography of it and it's really nice! http://www.cleywindmill.co.uk/weddings/

Hotel Terravina, best boutique hotel in the south east.

Surrounded by the New Forest it is a beautiful place to get married.

We originally wanted to get married here but can only have up to 36 people and we had lots more than that so couldn't.

Thank you all for your wonderful replies :-)

There were a couple of questions - I am looking at the UK or within a 3 hour flight of the UK - unfortunately my partners step dad is not that well and can not travel for a long distance

We would like to have a sit down dinner instead of a Buffet as well

I am going to go through and have a look at all the venues now - xxx

Our venue, Gean House has different rooms for different sized parties. The room for parties around 20 is absolutely STUNNING and I'm a bit sad that we have 70 and so can't use it!

It's exclusive use, got it's own bedrooms and beautiful gardens.

If you fancy a nice old Scottish country house that is!

Which county is your partners step dad is as that may also help with venue suggestions that are in a more reasonable distance. I'm in Kent and know a few venues but if your in Manchester it would be a bit far for travel. Although my venue is 3.5 hour flight from the UK ;-) haha
