Lilemz84, 11 January, 2013 at 10:31 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi everyone, I don't know who else to ask.... I want to plan my wedding for this year, ideally in the next 6mths, on very little money and small... The reason being is that me and my partner have been together 10yrs, we have an 8yr old boy, we have always just ticked along fine but in October we were given heart breaking news... My mum is terminally ill. She has stage 4 bowel cancer and after her last op they gave her very little time. As brides you all understand how special it is to have your mum with you, I always thought she would be here no matter what. So now I want go plan and hold my wedding while she is here, this is breaking my heart writing this... But I don't even know where to start, I also have very little money so if any if u have money saving tips I would be so grateful xxx please help me, I'm stuck and don't know where to start, thank you xxx

First of all, huuuuuge hugs. I cannot imagine how hard this is for you.

This site is so great for help and advice, the people are great too ;-)

The fact your doing it soon is good, most venues will have a really good cheap deal package on. Look around at the venue you like and ask them. Most things can be made yourself invites etc even wedding cake if you like (and your a good baker!)

Monsoon do some absolutly amazing dresses at brilliant prices!

You could, if you felt comfortable, ask your guests as contributions for the wedding as their gift? Also, get everyone on board, people are always willing to help when theres a wedding, all you need to do is ask!

Best of luck and keep us updated with your planning xxxx

Thank you for the advice on packages, I just feel over whelmed I think and I just don't know where to start, think I will start with venues and go from there ... My brother is in the RAF and my military family have been do helpful, one army mum is doing invites, the other is doing flowers and my neighbour offered to do cake, but I still feel like I can't do any of it without a date and I just don't know where to start... Think writing it all out felt a bit better... Xxx thank u

    Your welcome :-)

If you get married before the end of march, you might find the price will be even cheaper!

Venues are great at doing last minute deals.

    Happy venue searching :-)

    xx

I am so sorry to hear that. We lost my fiance's mum last year to exactly the same cancer just after getting engaged and finding out we were expecting our first baby. I think it is great you want to do it before you lose her to this terrible disease. I wish we had had the chance.

You need to think about what you want. You may need to be prepared to compromise to get things earlier in the season. Do you want a weekend wedding, or a Friday? Or would mid-week be do-able for you? As the previous poster said, you should be able to get some great deals.

we are on a £2.5k budget and are having a registry office ceremony and three course wedding breakfast at a nearby hotel. We didn't want to spend a lot (cos we don't have it) but wanted to get married so we could all have the same surname after our little boy arrived! The one thing I would suggest is finding the money for a photographer, that is one thing you won't want to compromise on when you will get some beautiful pictures of you and your mum.

I wish you all the luck with planning your wedding and sending big hugs as it must have been hard to write that all down in your original post

    xx

ps - which area are you in?

Sometimes the Groupon site have some great deals at short notice. Have you tried to sign up there? But to be honest, you just need to think what you want. Do you want a church, a registry office or done all in one with a reception at a hotel? Once you decide on that, you can start with the phone calls/emails to those places and go from there.

if you are unsure on anything, us girls (and Funky) can help you out as much as we can xx

So sorry to hear about your Mum

I'm from Swansea so trying to have a think. One of my brides is doing the official bit in a registry office and then having a blessing and reception at home. Is this an option or do you know someone with a fairly big house that can help?

I organised mine in seven weeks and spent well under 2k.

We did registry office with mums, Hs dad and great gran, my brother and my best friend, small meal with only immediate family at a nice vintage pub type restaurant, then a big party in a local hotel with a buffet.

My dress was from John Lewis and H hired a kilt. My mum made the cake, I had latex flowers (worked out very cheap and I can keep them forever) did my own hair and makeup, a friend drove us, my brother did the DJing.

It was a lovely day and most importantly, we got married and it was fab.

it is doable I'm just sorry for the circumstances. Best of luck, hitched is a brilliant place and full of support.

Hello there - so sorry to hear about your mum.

I am in exactly the same boat as you, together SEVENTEEN years, one daughter, eight year old, ticking along just nicely. But decided to take the plunge for her sake, and therefore didn't want to make a massive (ten thousand pound-odd) deal of it.

We are getting married in the Castle Hotel, in Neath, which has been a doddle. I have got 60 guests, three course wedding breakfast, red carpet entrance, DJ, evening do with buffet for 80 people, chair covers, bridal suite, reduced discounted rooms for guests - all coming in at under two grand. The registrar is marrying us at the hotel so everything is in one place.

My dress was from House of Fraser, the suits hired frmo Formally Yours, Bridesmaid dress from John Lewis. My mate is supplying the car, and I am not bothering buying a new ring because fiance bought me a ring years ago which I have cherished ever since, and have never seen one that I prefer, so I am just going to pay a tenner to get it blinged up a bit. (Polished).

My main extravagance has been flowers - I love flowers - and I have spend about £350 on them, but all in all, my wedding has come in just shy of three thousand pounds.

Good luck with it, and try to enjoy the planning.

Have you got a photographer yet, I have just booked a fantastic one, and she is £450 for the day and night. I am in Cardiff so I am sure she would come out to you. Also I agree, the last minute deals that people offer it brilliant.

Did you find a venue yet or a date ?

Iv not found a venue yet but castle hotel in Neath is gorgeous and not to far for mum to come... I have 40-60 people who I'd like there, we have a very large close family xxx so far people have been very kind and generous helping out, with donations for my dress, flowers, music and transport but it all hinges on the date, when I have a venue and date I can start putting it all in place xxx do you know just talking to you guys has made me relax a bit! I'm totally flexible on dates, etc as long as mum can get there I'm happy xxx

I agree with the bride who said you can organize beautiful wedding using tge registrer and going for a meal/dance afterwads. Most registrars now have grand rooms, and a wonderful service decoration at affordable prices.

    Hiya Lilemz,

So sorry to hear your news. I have loads of time on my hands at the moment. (stuck in my bed ill for 3 weeks) so have been googling things for you.

This venue looks lovely and has a good package for Friday or Sunday weddings with alot included.

Not sure if this is what you we're thinking/in budget etc.

Let me know what you think. I'm happy to do the googling and I'm great at finding a bargain with shoes/dress etc...

    Lots of love

    Louby
