Help - what type of petticoat/hoop to go with this dress? *FLASH*

corr1ne, 18 June, 2014 at 12:39 Posted on Planning 0 3

Ok, so I'm trying this post again as I didn't get any responses ☹️

I really don't know which type of hoop to buy. The bridal shop has been unhelpful as the one they recommend is totally different to any other I've seen and they want a fortune to hire it and even more to buy it. I'm going to buy one off ebay but can anyone else advise whether I would need a petticoat one hoop or two for this dress?

Thanks.

Hi I have a 3 hoop petticoat so this makes my dress pretty bug, I know this is unusual according to my dress shop. How full do you want the dress to be? Does your bridal shop order them in if you want? I think it's pretty bad that they aren't giving you much advice x

Aaargh wrote one reply and it lost it grrrr

I would go back to the shop and ask them exactly which petticoat they're recommending for the look you want. You are entitled to buy it and not from them! It's their job to help make you and your dress look amazing. ETA - just re-read your original post amd the dress shop clearly have advised which would be the ideal petticoat. You should look to get one the same......

But - as for which - it all depends on how full you want it to look and how much net the dress has. Some dresses don't have enough and the hoops can show through - especially at the bottom. I'm not recommending Light in the Box but have a look at these:

This one looked like it could be right rather than hoops:

For hoops I'd say you need a few if you're to avoid getting hoop marks - unless it has loads of net layers in which case you might get away with 2 or three.

Or have a look at the Jupon site - they're the UK's go-to in terms of wedding dress petticoats. 168 might be good for your dress:

or this one if you want some volume in your train:

Thank you for your responses. The bridal shop really want me to buy from them, which is understandable but I'm only 5 foot tall and between size 4 and 6 so whatever I get is going to need shortening and taking in. I don't want to go too big because of my height but want some fullness just because it's probably the only time I'll wear a dress of this shape. I'm now thinking of a two hoop so I can always remove the second hoop if it's too big. The lightbox link was really useful as it has more options.
