Help with a venue, north east or north yorkshire

Rainbooboo, 16 August, 2015 at 20:26 Posted on Planning 0 11

Okay so I am tearing my hair out looking for a venue in the north east or north Yorkshire that does not cost the earth. We want somewhere such as a wooden beamed barn, old ruined buildings or somewhere quite grand but within our budget but the problem is that I cannot find any where we want! Does anyone know of any barns or otherwise? We do not want a pub.

Our total wedding budget is 10k. That is for approx 70-80 guests all Day and evening. We love matfen hall but we think out of budget, high house farm northumberland is sweet but I do not see a wow factor. Am feeling a bit fed up trawling the internet!!

I am in exactly the same position and but the sounds of it want exactly the same as you!

We are feeling very disheartened right now, thinking that we just cannot afford to get married somewhere that we feel comfortable in.

We have looked around Whinstone View quickly and picked up a brochure, where it tells us that the reception will cost at least £14,000. Yesterday we looked around Middleton Lodge, which is stunning- no barn though- at the gentleman printed us a quote of over £16,000!!!

I will watch your thread with baited breath and my fingers crossed!

    Have you tried Danby Castle?

It was one of my dream venues but due to stairs, etc wasn't suitable for our needs ?

Don't know about prices but don't think it's in the same league as the others mentioned!

Also recently delivered wedding flowers to The Arches, it's fairly new but looked lovely too.

What about Jersey Farm? Haven't been myself but provided for a couple of weddings there and think it has that barn style look?

    Good luck!

I'm photographing a wedding today at East Riddlesden Hall which is a national trust venue. They have a barn.

Another local barn venue is Cheerful Chilli on Otley Chevin.

My friend got married at Chapters Hotel in Stokesley and you can get married outside and there is a river at the back of the hotel which is lovely.

I don't know how far down into North Yorkshire you'd want to go and I didn't get as far as getting a price (they're fully booked for next summer and I don't really want to wait) but there is Wold Top Brewery near Scarborough. Absolutely gorgeous place and very highly rated round these parts!

We looked at Whinstone View, but it was just too expensive for what was (or wasnt!) included

Not a barn, but we have chosen Gisbrorough Hall, which is £4100 for our 50 guests on a Saturday in March

Whinestone view used to do good wedding deals if u don't do a Saturday. Hutton rudby and works all village hall both are nice, Hutton rudby will make it look like a marquee inside for an added cost and has a lovely conservatory area. A lot of places in North Yorkshire that are barn places that have been renovated have cottoned on to them being popular places so are quite expensive, there is a wedding barn places in gillings west that is £7000 to hire for just the place, no food or anything else! I am having my reception at a place called thief hole cottages as they are building a hall, renovating a barn thing, u get all the cottages as well for the whole weekend so could save some of the cost my charging ppl to have the rooms. It was around £5000 for the whole weekend and sleeps 30 but have had to do the rest all ourselves so could make it fit your budget that way. It's in Thornton le moor, just between Northallerton and thirsk x

Hi there! I had a look at Whinstone too and it seems extortionate tbh. Sorry for the delay I have had a mad week at work. I am feeling a bit deflated at the moment...I was wondering whether a village hall might be an alternative but when you add up all the hiring of tables chairs then catering too it isn't far off the price of the big venues!

the thing I am finding difficult is finding somewhere not as conveyor belt as the big boys but isn't a rip off!

i think the barn idea may be out of the window and look elsewhere. I havent seen one venue I have thought YES to for the barn idea...the stone barns up north such as crook hall, jersey farm, high house brewery are not what I dreamt of. The one place I do like is Newton hall but it is top of budget and that is even on a monday to Wednesday!!

    have you had any luck?

If you're after something a bit different have you looked at Crab Manor in Thirsk? It's certainly not to everyone's taste but the gardens are beautiful and it was one of the cheaper places we viewed.

I also like The Morritt near Barnard Castle and I've heard good things about the Old Deanery in Ripon but I don't know what their prices are like.

I think Jersey Farm at Barnard Castle is a great suggestion. We shot a wedding video there a few years ago and I think it will meet most of your requirements. Don't know about budget though.
