Help with activities for a low key'ish hen do in London

diamondsragirlsbestfriend!, 2 May, 2009 at 11:00 Posted on Planning 0 7

Does anyone have any ideas on activities for a group of 4-5 girls to do in London - day and/or night. Its a kind of mini hen do but probably more of a get together really, as I will be back in the country and want to catch up with the girls properly and know I won't have laods of time on the wedding day. Also 1 of them doesn't know the others but I think that will be fine. I don't mind it not being really hensy as I had a proper cheesy hen do last weekend here in NZ. Also as we are a really small group I'm thinking of keeping it kind of low key. Don't know whether just to do a day out or a weekend either. Don't want it to be too expensive really. I see quite a few hotels in London do champagne afternoon tea which sounds quite nice for part of it but just stuck for ideas really. I really need to get things sorted cos people are asking what the plan is and its not too far away. My BM was going to organise it but I can't get hold of her at the moment and I need to make a plan.

Absolutely any ideas / inspiration appreciated.

Thanks girls.

    Vinopolis for wine tasting?

Could do something touristy like the dungeons?

Was also going to suggest Vinopolis!

How about the London Eye? You can hire your own pod if you want...

Another thing would be to look on lastminute dot com and see if there's any bargins- they often do afternoon teas at fancy places/spas for really cheap.

I'd go with the afternoon tea option. I went to a lovely hotel near Victoria for afternoon tea for a hen party a couple of years ago. What I loved about it was that unlike the Ritz - you didn't have to be in and out of there in 90 mins. It was a lovely day, we had a table in the garden and we sat and chatted for about 5 hours! There was also a bar service if you fancied moving on from tea and champers to cocktails or such like!

I've been to the Ritz for AT as well but I would rate the above hotel higher. Can't remember the name of it but I can find out. I think it is a bit of a tucked away hidden secret as I'd never heard of it before and it isn't on the main tourist drag.

After we had finished we went to see a show. The London Eye suggestion is always a good one and I like Vinopolis too!

I've been to a couple of hen do's in london. We did the London Eye (hired out a pod) which was great, went for afternoon tea in a posh hotel in Covent Garden (delicious and they didn't rush you - it's the Covent Garden Hotel. They also let you wear jeans). On a different do I went to Vinopolis, which we thoroughly enjoyed also. I'd say don't try to pack too much in as part of the fun (esp at this time of year) is just ambling about around areas like the Southbank and Covent Garden. We popped into Tate Modern for a quick look at the turbine hall and a quick glass of wine. If I was having a hen do in London I think I'd quite like to go on a boat trip on the Thames - the duck tours look fun. They're quite expensive but you can get 2 for 1 deals if you come in by train, and sometimes in Time Out. I think London is a great choice for a hen do as if you don't live there it's nice to have a day out in the capital, and if you do live there you tend not to do the tourist thing very often. Oh - we also hired a karaoke booth thing, which was great fun. If it was nice you could go to Hyde Park and hire out some pedaloes. Sorry for disjointed response, hope it helps!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone , will explore them further.

Hadn't though of lastminute.com either, that could be a good option.

    Thanks
