help with running order of evening do

cath4512, 4 of September of 2013 at 17:35 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi girls, I need your help again Smiley smile

We are getting married in Jamaica, just the two of us. We are having an evening reception when we get back. We want this to have some formal elements to it ( to keep my future MIL happy lol).

We will arrive 30 mins after everyone else ( I have added this to the wording on the invitations). We are having 2 speaches, a singer for 3 or 4 songs, a first dance, buffet & then a DJ.

We are doing a seating plan as the chef at the venue recommeneded that we did.

Sooo, how should the evening pan out? What order would you do things?

Thank you fellow hitchers xx

I'm in the same position as you as we're having an evening reception. I think it all depends on what time you start Hun and what you want personally what I think we're going to do is have a drinks reception for our guests as we'll be arriving after them due to getting our photos taken near by.

Just before we arrive we will have the guests sit at there table so the master of ceremonies can announce we have arrived. And then from there just start the party. I think we are serving the buffet an hour after we arrive and just before or just after have the speeches and thank pur guests. After the meal I think we will cut the cake and have our first dance and hopefully encourage people to get up and dance too and hopefully it will all flow from there.

Were also going to have some entertainment not sure yet what it is but we're thinking something fun that can last a while so may e a casino table as the guests could start to play during the drinks reception before we're there and can then play after the meal too

Sorry if this has not helped at all hopefully it may give you some ideas.

Are you having your first dance while the singer is singing or will your first dance be through the dj?

Ok, i'd probably go for something like:

    7pm - guests arrive

    7.30pm - you arrive

    8pm - speeches

8.30pm - first dance and singer

9pm - buffet with disco starting soon after (you'll want some form of music on during the buffet even if it's ipod)

I'd have some background music from 7pm-8pm too.

Hi, we are having our first dance from the DJ. I think we will have speaches before we eat.

I was thinking maybe, speaches 8.30, eat after that. Then the singer as people are finishing food. Then first dance then just party...our DJ does an Elvis impersonation as well which will be later on as its really funny.. Hes really good & he won stars in your eyes on TV. Im probably worried about nothing & it will all just flow xx

Ahh right - I thought the singer was doing your first dance.

So you're not starting anything until an hour and a half after your guests arrive?

Going with your order I'd do speeches at 8pm, food at 8.30pm with singer towards the end, first dance at 9.30pm with DJ following on.

I'd agree with Kharv, esp as you will have guests hanging around from before you even arrive it would be an idea to get some music on the go and things happening a wee bit earlier as they'll have been waiting a while.

I wouldnt have nothing at all when the guest arrive. The DJ will be there so there will be music. I also will have some wedding libs on the tables for them to be doing.

I may bring it all 30 mins earlier as you say though. I suppose we can see how it goes on the night time wise, its the order I was bothered about tbh. The timing can be adjusted as it goes along.

    Thankd girls xx

    I would do it In this order;

guest arrive, get seated, you arrive. Straight In to speeches then serve food, first dance and then party the night away

Your caterers will want a set time to serve up the buffet though. I would bring things earlier, partly so there's not loads of hanging-around time at the beginning, and also because people will probably not have had dinner and so will be starving! Earlier speeches and dinner = more dancing time afterwards!
