Hen do in a few weeks but I’m pregnant!

Louisa123, 8 March, 2022 at 15:40 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Planned pregnancy so knew this could happen so my own doing lol, but got my hen do booked for when I’ll be 7 almost 8 weeks pregnant. I’ve got an early 6 week scan to make sure all ok but think I’m going to have to tell people I’m pregnant before the hen as we’ve booked bars etc. They’ll all be feeding me drinks. I don’t want to tell people this early but think if I don’t they’ll guess anyway. Anyone had a similar experience?

Massive congratulations to you both, how lovely! I get your worry as is still early days, but I think you will need to say something as you don't want the worry about activities and drinking. If I were you I would say something when you are all together and make it explicitly clear that they are not to mention it to anyone, you are only telling them so early because of it being your Hen, but it is to go no further. I hope you have a lovely time and good luck with your pregnancy x

When I went to a friend's hen do, another attendee said she wasn't drinking for medical reasons. It turned out she was pregnant, which is a medical reason! I suppose it's a bit harder as it's your hen, but maybe try phrasing it like that? Health reasons? You'll still have a fabulous time even without drinking. Good luck with it all!

Congratulations to you both! I agree with Charlotte it's probably best to say something, but if you really didn't want to what Lizzie said would be a good idea. You could say you are on antibiotics or another medication where they advise against drinking alcohol?

Congratulations! One of my friends had a similar issue and she said she was finishing up a course of antibiotics so couldn't drink because she wasn't comfortable telling 12 people that she was pregnant at 8 weeks. But I agree with the other posters that you will need to say something so that people aren't trying to force you to drink.

Congratulations! The only other way to get around drinking is by saying you’re on strong antibiotics! People will understand
