Hen do on a budget! What are you doing?

Penny P, 11 October, 2013 at 13:31 Posted on Planning 0 32

Many of you seem to be going abroad for your Hen do but my budget will not stretch to that. ☹️

I'm thinking of having two hen do's, one for my family in law and my mum and another for my friends and sisters. Maybe a meal with the FIL and Mum and was thinking of clay pigeon shooting, crazy golf, a meal and then drunken karaoke with my friends! ?

What are you all doing?

    That sounds so fun!!!

My MoH has already planned mine!! We're having a weekend away in Bristol!! Friday we will arrive at the hotel, then go for a meal in the evening, Saturday is 'It's a Knockout!' then VIP access to a club in Bristol in the evening, then a spa day on the sunday to recover.

The more people that come the cheaper it will be - packages includes accommodation (3*) too, according to MoH it's a really good price too - she won't tell me how much as they're all chipping in for me!! Despite my protests!!

I think you're idea sounds fab and it shouldn't be too expensive either Smiley smile

First one with mainly family and a few close friends (about 20 of us) - a big country house for the weekend with pool, sauna etc. Cost about £150pp including travel, accommodation, food and booze.

Second one with mates (about 20 again) - Night out in Newcastle with a meal and karaoke.

    Both brilliant.

Second one is just friends and bridesmaids it is in Cardiff and thats all i know. My sisters wont tell me anything else except for the date and time to be ready its all a surprise. Roll on the end of Jan, im excited already! ?

    Not a clue!

not planning it, MOH is. not got an idea what it is and I'm not too fussed (as long as its NOT a p*** up) but i hope its low key and affordable. People may hate me saying this but i think they can be a waste of money, like an un-needed splurge (but i have been label as boring by my mother)

I had everyone to my flat in London (just friends - had a little tea party with family another day) and everyone stayed with me or with another London friend who kindly put up a few people. We had a girls night in on the Friday - I made food and everyone brought a bottle and we played silly games. On the Saturday we went out to a lovely and very reasonable Turkish restaurant in Islington then hired a private room at Lucky Voice karaoke for two hours before going to the Bavarian Beerhouse for beer, shots and late night snacks followed by dancing at Club de Fromage party night at the O2 Academy.

What I had really wanted to do was go on a cruise but it soon became clear that the price was just too much to ask for the vast majority of people and I would much rather have everyone there having a laugh than worry about costs and having some people not able to come, or coming but resenting the price.

The Friday night girls night in was probably my favourite bit and it cost next to nothing. For the Saturday, I only had to ask everyone for £32 which covered the karaoke room, a 'hen package' at the beerhouse (which included a glass of Prosecco on arrival and shots later in the evening) and guest list entry into the club, and then the only other thing people had to pay for was their own food and any other drinks whilst we were out.

Wont be having a full hen do... Will probably take me and my best friend/MOH to a spa for a weekend. Not got any other ideas than that unfortunately...although agree that two hen do's are a good idea.

Im having 2 hens one away with the bridesmaids but then i'm going to a Tribute night at the local hotel.

Its usually £22 for a 3 course meal, tribute act (have seen George Michael, Lady GaGa both amazing!) and a disco afterwards.

I thought this would be best idea then it saves everyone trailing from pub to pub and we are all in one place Smiley smile

20 of us are staying in a big cottage with hot tubs at the wedding venue. It is £87 each for 2 nights. Tesco will deliver there, so going to ask an extra £15-20 of each person and do a HUGE food and drink order so there is no extra costs during the weekend. We will entertain ourselves with baking, films, country walks and DRINKING!

I would love to go abroad but it is the expense of it for me and everyone going. So, considering a weekend away in Brighton or maybe Bristol. I am thinking the usual -cocktail making, dinner somewhere, shopping, drinks, club etc.

It’s a knockout in the afternoon and then a meal and night out in a nice local town.

I absolutely loved it. It’s a knockout was amazing. And we saw one of the teams out in town on the night, I had a photo with the stag who looked better in his dress than I did in mine!!!

We're going to Blackpool for the weekend. £90 for train, two nights bed and breakfast and afternoon tea at the Tower Ballroom. Having been a couple of times for girls weekends we know we can have a decent time with £100 spending money for food and drink the rest of the time quite easily and since everyone is paying a bit each month it's not breaking anyone's bank.

Ooh Middlesbrough is handy for us too so I might just have to try that for a normal night one weekend!

I've not decided on my hen do's yet but will probably have a night around town for friends and work mates, and then I fancy a spa day with my sister, FSIL and mine and maybe OH's mum if she's up to it.

As most people will have to travel and stay over for the wedding, I didn't want to have a hen that would cost a bunch of cash, too.

My hen will be in London; thinking of kicking my brother out of my London flat for the night so a few non-London people can stay (handy!). Current plans are a spa day for a small group (BMs, poss mum etc), then a meal (poss a few more people) then as one of my BMs loves putting on events, we'll have some sort of cheesy 80s/rock night in a pub somewhere Smiley smile

Although I'm not organising it, so could end up being something totally different!

Originally my plan was to stay in another city but some of my friends couldn't afford it so I decided to go to Manchester instead (local to us). Most of us stayed in an apartment called The Place. In the day we played laser tag- loved that it was so fun. We went for a few drinks in the afternoon in the city centre and played the Mr and Mrs game. In the evening we went cocktail making then we ended the night in another bar, played truth or dare then danced the night away!

    What I want to do:

Zombie survival weekend, followed by afternoon tea in the woods.

What my chief BM wants us to do:

Weekend p*ss up in Dublin followed by a spa day at a posh hotel.

However, I am the one that told her she had free reign so I can't really complain if I don't like it! The only strict rule I have is no oily strippers and I can't stand all of the tacky penis straws/feather boas.

Not overly sure as MoH has taken over but main part will be music and drink and dancing at my mam's in the big room extension over the garage (otherwise known as mam's craft room) I also want to keep it cheap as people are going to have to pay out to get to wedding in many cases.

I also hate pub crawls and things that are going to take a lot of faffing. However, I have been told not to buy a dress as they will 'provide me with an outfit'. I am quite nervous but I have been assured that plastic willies and strippers are not on the agenda. (or I'll go home!)

Im so glad other people have said no strippers lol willies make me giggle but definitely aren't 'sexy' and besides 90% of my hens will be engaged, married or lesbian so not really any point

did anyone watch 'hens behaving badly'...

the pub crawl one made me cringe, its everything I wouldn't want:

tacky outfit (clearly dint check most places dont allow fancy dress)

    stripper

    fights

peeing in the street (disgusting and illegal)

taking random men back to your room

    ... stay classy love lol

the other girl seemed more like my style:

    classier dress theme

actually interesting things to do that are researched and booked

no fights, strippers or strange men

and keeping her dignity (although i doubt ill have the early nights lol)

I never understand why someone would want to spend there hen so drunk they cant remember it, risking losing their husband through cheating or possibly ending up in jail

Your plan sounds amazing! I'd love to go on that hen! But Dublin is a very cool city too. I'm thinking of turning my ideal hen do into a plan to celebrate my 30th so I get to do it anyway

I had a pyjama party at a spa.

There were 10 of us and we met for lunch then checked in and used the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room etc and we had treatments booked. Afterwards we all put on trackie bottoms and t-shirts (one nutter was in a onesie) and they had given us a fuction room with it's own TV, it's own bathroom and iPod docking station - we had loads of sharing platters of food brought in, played music and danced and we had drunken party games and it was absolutely hilarious - I was crying with laughter!

Everyone said that they had an amazing time and had never quite been on a hen night like it - we were palying drunken musical statues and musical chairs and all sorts, it was really good fun and very chilled and relaxed.

We paid £65 each and that included overnight stay (twin rooms) with bed and breakfast, it included the sharing platter foods and the use of the spa facilities. we took all our own booze and had an awesome time!

    xx

I'm going to Ibiza for three nights with 15 of the girls (cost £160) in May and then having a night out in my hometown of Cardiff a few weeks later which everyone that couldn't make it to Ibiza will come to and my mum, aunties ect. We're going to a club that has a drag show and is a fab night out, I can't wait for both!

I had a night out in Blackpool arranged by my daughter. We went to Funny Girls and had a really fun evening. A Bus took us there and we had party bags with shots and goodies in and everyone took a bottle for the journey. With stop offs for McDonalds we had a right laugh. The bus driver was amazing!!

My daughter and I have just been on a Hen Do this weekend at York. We went for the races, then a meal out followed by a few clubs and pubs. Eighteen of us (a mix of all ages) had a great time with little extra bits thrown in such as challenges/dares for the bride. But as she was quite shy a few of the girls had a go at some of her dares - it all added to the fun!!
