Hen Night - to dress up or not to dress up?

Fozzy Bear, 28 May, 2009 at 11:18 Posted on Planning 0 8

My cousins fiancee who I get on well with has organised my hen night for me, she was desperate to do something for me, so she has laid on a buffet and a couple of bottles of bubbly for us, we have a VIP area in a local bar.

She is desperate for us to dress up (has suggested police women).

There are a few different types of people coming, from the party animals to the bit more aloof types (this one includes FSIL) so don't really weant it to be too tacky if I can help it, but feel a bit guilty just saying NO!

I have a spare veil I can don just to say I have, and to attempt to avoid the L plates etc.....

I have thought about maybe saying it should be glamour and bling and then its fun without being too tacky?

Anyone got any thoughts? Cheers ladies.

I'm of a similar opinion really - my chief BM has said she wants to organise mine and she is mad on dressing up, at any opportunity!! I'm not so much of a fan - I think usually it's funny for the first 5 mins and is then just annoying and you look like a bit of a tool for the rest of the night. ?

So I've told all my other friends, mum etc, to tell her NO if she starts suggesting any "funny" costumes! I know some of them will insist on draping me in L plates and veils, and although I'm not a particular fan of that I'll do it just for the whole 'hen' experience.

I think if there's going to be a theme it's a good idea to maybe do something similar to your idea - e.g. glamour/bling, or maybe something like Sex and the City - e.g. glam dresses and cocktails - so that you get to dress up in nice clothes instead of a silly costume, but then you still have a 'theme' (however loosely based!) if you want one.

My hen night has a SATC theme which means I had an excuse for some lurvely shoes - which OH got me for Mothers Day.

Other hen nights I have been to have had a WAG theme, a black and bling theme or just colours (pink/black and white)

I certainly wouldn't want fancy dress kind of dress up!

I went to an 80's one recently - and hated it!!

SATC or colours sounds good. You've made the effort but still feel comfortable and not daft!

My sister organised my hen night. I was insistent I didn't want to dress up or look stupid. As you can see, my opinion was taken on board.

I've texted her to suggest sparkle and bling as the "THEME".

My sister has just horrified me by suggesting she may have ordered a stripper. I hope to goodness she hasn't, I will be mortified.

I know its each to their own but I think dressing up silly & stuff is all part of a Hen Do altough I don't like tacky stuff like school girls etc but dressing up is fun.

When we went to Dublin last year on my FSIL's Hen Do we all dressed up as gangsters, there was about 10 of us & we looked pretty good if I do say so myself.

The hen is the one in the middle.

Hi Keelz, you do look fab, as does Mel! It's just that I'm not really that bothered about a hen night to start with, and low key is much more my thing. I would probably enjoy it if it were a girls night out/weekend away, but I don't want to look like a t!t in front of my FSIL.

I probably need to get over myself, chill out, and take that rod out of my @rse as OH is always saying!

    Hiya,

For my Hen party the theme was 'sex in the city' meaning lovely dresses, shoes and handbags.

I didn't want to look tacky. I just had a garter and wore a fab fascinator so I stood out as the hen.

The girls made bracelets with a big flower on with my picture stuck in the middle and each name written on it.

    hope this helps

    ?

If it's not your thing then it's not your thing & if your forced into doing something you know you won't particularly enjoy then it will just end up spoiling your night.

I'm sure what ever you decide on will be brilliant & fun.
