Hertfordshire venues

JenniferMay, 9 April, 2012 at 16:18 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi,

Can anyone help with some venue advice? We're looking to get married next year sometime, either Spring or Autumn and would love a barn type venue for around 80 day guests.

We've looked at Tewin Bury Farm, Fanhams Hall and Coltsfoot Country Retreat.

Coltsfoot is my favourite so far, but i'm slightly concerned that it may be a bit too small - we are on the maximum number of guests.

But i'm also thinking that we may have not even come across some other great places. Does anyone know of any other barn type venues around this area?

thanks, J

Are you looking to have the ceremony and everything in the same place?

If so a good place to start is your local councils website as they will have a list of all licensed wedding venues in their authority.

    How definite is Hertfordshire?

There are loads of barn style venues across the border into Essex, not that far really - Blake Hall is lovely.

I have been to Tewin Bury, it's lovely there but you don't get exclusive use if this is important to you?

It doesn't have to be Herts, but close by. We are going for a church wedding, so don't want a venue thats too far away.

I'd quite like somewhere with accommodation so that guests can stay, doesn't have to be exclusive use, but think i would prefer that...

We had a modern barn reception at Theobalds Park, accommodation was all around the courtyard.

Hertfordshire is pretty big so depending on how far you want to travel?

The Priory in Little Wymondley (Nr Stevenage) - https://www.thepriory.net/information/overview

South Farm in Royston - https://south-farm.co.uk/

Ferny Hill Farm in Barnet - http://www.fernyhillfarm.com/Elizabethan%20Barn.html

Lots of venues in Hertfordshire, all with varying sizes, styles and capacities.

Tewin Bury Farm is lovely, I've enjoyed working there, and the staff are very good.

I've left off the venues where my clients have complained about poor treatment, these have normally been chain hotels, and are not mentioned by the other posters.

In addition to those previously listed, these may also be of interest.

    Ponsborne Park

    Dyrham Park

Hendon Hall (Middlesex, but very close to Herts)

    Hunton Park

    Finally, a list from Hitched;

It's a bit further up the road (25 mins drive north of Coltsfoot) but I can highly recommend South Farm. We got married in the Old Dairy and had our wedding breakfast in the Tudor Barn (it's 400+ years old), which can be used for marriage ceremonies too. The Old Dairy is licensed for 100 people and the Tudor Barn is licensed for 120 people, plus you get exclusive use. The setting, farm animals and fantastic food can not be faulted - we had an amazing day. Good luck with your search x

Three excellent venues. Coltsfoot has had more people in the past. I shot one wedding there that was in Brides magazine and they had just over 100 guests.

Knebworth Barns is also worth checking out.

If you could say where you are in Herts, perhaps we could be more specific with our help.
