Hi All! Catering Question?

Ella, 17 February, 2026 at 10:39 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 2

My partner and I are in the early stages of planning. As it stands, our reception will start at 4pm. We aren't planning on having a formal wedding breakfast, we're going to do street food style with either wood fired pizzas or greek food. My question is, how much food is too much/too little? Since the ceremony won't start until 2pm, guests will presumably have eaten lunch beforehand. If we do street food in the evening, should we do canapes as well? Maybe 4pp around 4-5pm, during the cocktail hour - thoughts? Should we do a buffet as well, or a grazing table perhaps?

Advice is much appreciated!

With a 4pm start, you’re in a "sweet spot" where guests won't be starving, but they'll definitely be looking for a snack to pair with those first drinks. Canapés are a great move—4 per person is perfect for bridging the gap between a late lunch and your main street food event. Since pizza or Greek food is quite filling, you can skip voya financial login a formal buffet or grazing table; having too many competing food styles often leads to high waste and "food coma" guests. Stick to the canapés to keep energy up during photos, then let the street food shine as the main event around 6:30pm or 7pm.
