High heels

Platty, 24 April, 2008 at 10:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 25

I really love mary jane shoes but I just can't walk around in high heels for very long, the last time I tried I ended up walking home bare foot [:I]. Being 4ft11 I could do with the extra height ? so the ones that can walk in high heels, how do you do it?

I just do it. I've been wearing heels for years, since I was about 14/15.

Have you tried using insoles, or those party feet gel cushions? Also wearing a smaller or thicker heel help as opposed to a stiletto heel.

Thick heels, wedges and platform soles all make high heeled shoes comfier. The more you wear them, the more your feet will get used to them! I'm a trainers/ flip-flops girl at home, but usualy wear heels for work/ going out.

Never worn shoes with a stiletto heel, I'm not that brave ?. The last shoes with a heel I wore that actually felt comfortable for the entire day was pair of low kitten heel slingbacks but I want to go higher *stamps feet!

I am the same as you. I am only 5ft so need the extra height but heels kill me. Try going for a smaller heel and I also seem to manage wedge heels better.

Could you afford to invest in a pair of more expensive shoes? Mine seem much more comfortable than a lot of my cheaper shoes [:I]

I used to wear heels all the time until I married a short man ?
I feel irrationally silly looking taller than him, as we are the same height, heels would make me taller. My feet have now become wider from wearing flat shoes. I agree with the others though that wider heels are much better as I find stilleto's impossible to walk in!
The only way to go is to do it and work through the pain barrier ? your feet will soon get used to them!

I'm sure I could persuade Mr Platty into getting me a pair of expensive shoes ?

I agree my expensive 'posh' shoes are slightly more comfortable but I'm heavy footed and go through shoes like there is no tomorrow. Not to mention scuff marks from daily escalator use. I ruin shoes but refuse to wear trainers to and from the office ?

I think I got mine on sale and looking at them they might be slightly lower than those.

I live in my trainers as I can't do ballet pumps or other flat shoes or wear high heels and think practise makes perfect. I'm sure I used to find it more painful when I started wearing heels but broke through the pain barrier eventually ?

Its all about angles, I think. I have sky high platforms from Office that I can dance for hours in, yet other shoes that are only a few inches high seem to kill me. For example I love Topshops shoes but they seem to be so dreadfully uncomfortable compared to Office ones, I'm sure its down to the angle of the heel. Odd.

Chunkier heels work better I always think.

It depends on the shop as well. I find Faith shoes tend to cut my feet to shreds, heels or not, whereas heels from other shops are fine.

Wedges are dead easy to wear - I could walk for miles in mine. Agree about chunky heels too.

I think it's only really high heels (3/4 inches +) that hurt the balls of your feet, and there's a trick to walking in them (put all of your foot down together rather than ball and then heel). They do hurt though, and I don't see how people can wear them for a full day at the office unless they don't have to stand up much. I wear them for going out, and find a glass of something takes the edge off the pain ?

High heels won't hurt (or not as much) if the shoe has a platform.

As someone else said, if you want to go high and have painfree feet then you need to ensure that your shoes have either a wedge heel, a chunky heel or a platform sole.

I have some sky scraper Kurt Geiger shoes but as they have a chunky heel and platform sole they are my comfiest shoes.

I love those shoes Platty ❤️

Shame they have sold out ?

I live in high heels, the only time I wear flats is when I wear trainers, which isn't very often. I find high heels far more comfortable ?

I don't know how I do it but I do just manage, I'm a fellow short arse (5ft) and would never ever go out at night in town/to the pub etc without heels. As EY says, heels are comfier with a platform on them. I have a pair of Karen Millen shoes which are about 5" and are probably my comfiest heels so sometimes more expensive ones are better!

    Keep perservering?

It definitely makes a difference what make they are. If you don't want to go too expensive I have one word: Clarks. Honestly, whatever shoes they make they are comfy.

M&S do some very comfortable heels, I've got some of the "Insolia" ones - the shape of the footbed is different so your weight is better distributed. I can wear them all day and not want to cut my feet off.

    I like these:
    http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B00110JQ80/sr=1-17/qid=1209038896/ref=sr_1_17/026-1600009-4938815?ie=UTF8&node=&m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&keywords=&mnSBrand=core&size=9&rh=n%3A72138031&page=2

    In the sale too!

I also agree it's about the style of shoe, I can totter about for days on 4" heels, but i can't wear wedges or kitten heels. I also can't walk in the thicker heels, they have to be pointy!?
