High Street Wedding Dresses

Soon2bMrsCB, 13 September, 2013 at 11:50 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi

Has anyone gone down this route? Iv been shopping in proper wedding dress shops but just cant find anything I like or feel comfortable in, I am having a Church wedding and reception is in a place called The Secret Garden, I'm hoping for a relaxed garden kind of vibe but I'm worried that high street dresses are more destination dresses and that they wouldn't be wow enough!

I ended up getting mine from a sample sale in a bridal shop but I tried the high street route first, IMO Monsoon and Coast have the nicest dresses, I only tried on in Debenhams, BHS and Monsoon and Monsoon's dresses were amazing quality and I have heard Coast's are too.

If you can't find what you want you could hire a seamstress to make your own or look in sample sales like me, many shops have them at any time and the dresses come in all different sizes.

The sort of relaxed/ garden theme you're describing makes me think of Monsoon wedding dresses. They have got some really lovely ones although I suppose they are quite simple.

House of fraser have got some absolutely gorgeous Phase Eight ones.

Try John Lewis. I've had a few brides buy these and they are gorgeous.

Also try Phase Eight.......................they have some lovely wedding dresses although not stocked in their High Street stores ( 'cept London & Winchester where there are dedicated Phase Eight wedding dress shops I believe)

John Lewis did stock quite a good range of Phase Eight wedding dresses and you could try their click & collect service through Waitrose if you have a nearby store?

I did. House of Fraser, £140, and I loved it, it was perfect for me (I'm a bit older than most of the nubile young brides on here) and a real wedding dress would have been overcooking it for me.

I was in the same position as you.... couldn't find anything I liked in the bridal stores and really didn't want to spend a significant amount of money. I did check out Coast and Monsoon (the Oxford Street stores stock the bridal ranges) but I was most impressed with Phase Eight. I actually ordered one of the dresses online that was on sale- as I knew their returns policy was very easy to deal with in case I didn't like it. I was so impressed with the quality and the design I've decided to keep it and will be using a seamstress (anyone recommend a good one in SW London?) for alterations. I'm also looking into buying a bridal sash to customize it a bit so it feels more unique/special for me.

Pic of my dress below :-)

I was 40 on my wedding day, with one child and had been engaged for seventeen years. I wasn't a particularly "Blushing" bride.

    But thanks for the compliment.
