Honeymoon Fund

Amy, 18 August, 2022 at 19:37 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 1 3
Hi everyone,

We are fully committed to asking for honeymoon fund donations should anyone want to gift us anything (so please don't try and dissuade me or tell me its tacky to ask for money).
My question is, how should we go about this? Is there a honeymoon fund website that is 100% safe? Obviously we don't want to have money that we then have trouble getting out for the honeymoon.
Also, is there any specific wording you would recommend to ask for donations in a tactful way? Any advice would be appreciated!

We were exactly the same. We looked at sites but a lot of them took a % from the donation or charged the users a fee on top, which didn't sit right with me, also we didn't want to be tied to spending in a set time with a set company as our honeymoon was booked already and as it was all inclusive we wanted the donations to bay the balance. We set up a new bank account and we put the following on our invites:

We have been asked about a gift list, but as we have been together for 5 years and we have already accumulated quite a life, and lots of stuff together! If you feel you would like to gift us with more than your presence, a contribution towards our honeymoon would be greatly appreciated. We have set up a bank account and we will be happy to share the details with you. However, what we really hope for is that we get to celebrate our special day with you.

We had a lot ask for the bank details and then on the day lots of cash and cheques in cards. We only had 4 actual presents, so I now have 3 sets of Mr & Mrs Mugs and towels!

We’re doing the same as we’ve lived together for years and don’t ‘need’ anything. We’re using Prezola after some friends had used them. It gives guest the opportunity to give ‘cash’ or pay’ for things on your honeymoon (like a meal for two/wine tasting etc) and you can create something bespoke. You just get the cash so you’re not obligated to use a particular companies (there is a 2%fee). I liked it as guests got to see the sorts of fun things you were planning to do with the money.

I plan on putting the usual ‘Your presence is enough…. But if you would like to help us have a honeymoon of a lifetime look at our gift list, alternatively we would greatly appreciate cash to help us on our way’ something to that effect. I think asking for money is so common no one will expect differently.

    Hi,
We’re doing the same thing, I used WithJoy.com to create our wedding website (I really like it!) and they have a zero fee cash fund. Our gifts/registry page shows a ‘Honeymoon Fund’ box and guests can contribute any amount they’d like, which is linked to PayPal, the ‘Gift Registry’ link is also displayed after guests submit their RSVP. We didn’t put anything on the invites but we wrote a note on the website saying ‘Your presence at our wedding is more important than a gift and we’ll be delighted to see you! If you would still like to help us celebrate with a gift, we’d greatly appreciate a contribution to our honeymoon’. We’ve received honeymoon contributions from some friends already and the money goes straight into our PayPal account in full (no fees or % deducted). We weren’t originally going to ask for honeymoon contributions or gifts, I did feel like it was a bit cheeky etc. but we’ve lived together for a long time too & have everything we need. Several of our friends have done the same thing/suggested that we did and it seems normal/accepted these days!
