Honeymoon - New York & Mexico??

futuremclaughlin2014, 17 April, 2013 at 16:20 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 12

Hi,

We are hoping to book our honeymoon soon when the dates are released at the end of April.

We are hoping to go to New York for approx 4 nights and Mexico all inclusive for 10 nights afterwards to relax. We are looking at the Riviera Maya resort in Mexico rather than Cancun but are open to ideas.

Neither of us has been to either before so would love any advice that anyone is able to give especially hotels reccommendations please. We wil be going a few days after our wedding on 7th June 2014.

Thank you xxx

Also, if anyone went in June what was the weather like?

I have looked up online and although it is the start of the rainy season it looks like it doesnt affect Cancun, Riviera Maya etc that early other than a few showers which i could deal with xx

Those are undeniably beautiful places. Mexico is exceptionally romantic and it's a good place to spend your honeymoon. I bet you can't wait for the day!!

    Hiya,

I'm not sure about the weather either but there are sites you can get more info on if you google :-).

I wanted to pop in to say that I'm going to Riviera Maya for my honeymoon. Love the look of the beach and the fact it's not as built up as some places I looked in to. We're going right at the end of March/beginning of April.

We are going to New York then Mexico on honeymoon!!

We are going at the end of July this year - 3 nights New York then 10 nights Mexico. We are staying at the Affinia Manhattan in New York (we didn't want the NY accommodation to blow the budget as we'll mainly be sight seeing) then Secrets Maroma in Mexico (5* adults only all inclusive). We absolutely cannot wait!!!!! xxx

We are also going to NYC for the first part of our honeymoon at the end of July! We are staying at the Bentley Hotel. Again we didn't want anything too expensive in NYC given that we want to mainly sightsee in this part. We are then off to LA and Huntington beach for our relaxing holiday part. Mexico sounds amazing though!

I've recently been to New York and it was amazing Smiley smile

We hardley spent any time at all in our room as we were always out and about, so I would get somewhere nice but don't get something ridicously expensive as you will hardly spent any time in there!! Also i recommend going to the ticket booth in times square to get half price broadway show tickets Smiley smile x

    That sounds fab!!

We went to Riviera Maya in June 2010 for two weeks and the weather was fantastic, it only rained for one afternoon during our whole stay and its not like the rain here it doesnt last as long and its not cold!

We stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe and it was fab, big swimming pool, jacuzzi's, buffet restaurant + lots of a la carte restaurants, we also did a one night trip to Cancun to experience it and we all loved that too.

    Happy honeymoon hunting!

That sounds fab!! I currently live in New York and love it. It's going to be the best weather here in June, definitely the best month to visit. I would highly recommend the circle tour. It's a boat tour around the whole of Manhattan Island - and I think is the best/most chilled way to see Manhattan on a hot and sunny day!

    Hi

Great choice - this is exactly what we were planning to do until we decided it was too much hassle with the packing (we are going on 1 December so NY would be cold whilst Mexico still warm/hot!) So now we are just going to Mexico. I have no advice on NY, sorry, but I have been to the Riviera Maya before. Last time I stayed at the El Dorado Royale which was amazing. I understand that it is now split into two separate resorts - I stayed in what is now the Casitas part of the resort and it was lovely. It was about 30 minutes in a taxi from Cancun and 40 minutes from Playa del Carmen on the beach front. This time we are staying at the Excellence Riviera Cancun which I was recommended by several people on TripAdvisor and by the travel consultant we booked with at Blue Bay Travel (who have been extremely helpful so far by the way, thoroughly recommend). The hotel is again on the Riviera Maya, closer to Cancun (near to Puerto Morales) and has great reviews - I am very excited! /cancun/excellence-riviera-cancun/

One slight word of caution regarding the weather, June is hurricane season and you would of course be very unlucky to experience a hurricane whilst you are there but when I last went it was early July 2005 and we were hit by a hurricane - a Cat 4 one (Emily for those that are interested!) - which wiped out several hotels and conservation areas. It had a huge impact on the holiday (we spent 2 days in a conference centre in downtown Cancun with about 10 other hotels' guests sleeping on a sheet on the floor). The weather before and after that though was fine, with the odd thunderstorm (it is the tropics, you should expect some rain) and it was swelteringly hot, even at night. I got burnt to a crisp a couple of days after the hurricane - recommend a high factor of suncream!

Having said all of that, it clearly hasn't put me off since we're going for our own honeymoon in December this year! There is loads to do in that area of Mexico, the people are lovely and the hotels are on the whole amazing! Have a wonderful time x

    Hiya,

We went to the Riviera Maya in May a few years ago and absolutely loved it! We stayed at the El Dorado Seaside Suites which was amazing. The food was out of this world, and everything was included in the all inclusive, including having cocktails at the swim up pool bar at 10am! Smiley smile We were contemplating going back for our honeymoon, the only reason we didn't was because we wanted to go somewhere completely different. Good luck!

I can't help on the NY front I am afraid, but when it come to Mexico, Riviera Maya, I cannot recommend El Dorado Seaside Suites enough. We have just had our honeymoon there (1st-15th April) and it wa samazing. Adults only, which made a massive difference.
Ther service was impecible, the place was bwautiful and in good distance to everything, the sea was warm, the beaches were amazing (theyu rake the seaweed away all day long!), you get offered drinks all the time, the food is superb, the rooms are delighful.....I could go on and on! It really is a magnificent place and well worth a honeymoon trip! Both me and H would go back tomorrow if we could.

We've been to both New York and Mexico although not on honeymoon and not as a combined holiday, but loved both!

We went to Mexico back in April-May 2009 (when the swine flu outbreak had just kicked off - we were on the last flight out before everything was cancelled!), and we had one day where it was a bit showery but it just provided some relief from the heat to be honest! We stayed at Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda, which was gorgeous and only 10 minutes from Playa Del Carmen. We went into PDC a couple of days for a wander around the shops and it's a lovely town, and we spent one day at Xcaret which was fantastic and if I ever go back I'd do that again for sure! Unfortunately the swine flu outbreak meant we couldn't go to Chichen Itza as hoped because the government closed it, but friends who have been said it was great.

We went to NYC last year for our wedding anniversary for 8 days. It had long been a dream of mine to go and it didn't disappoint at all! We stayed at Yotel on 10th and 42nd, which is only 2 blocks from Times Square but is just far enough to be away from the crowds and noise. If you're planning on doing the usual touristy things I would definitely suggest spending some time beforehand doing some research and looking into booking any tickets you may need before you go. We wanted to visit Top of the Rock, Empire State Building, Natural History Museum and Intrepid Museum, so I booked these online here https://gocity.com/new-york/en-us/products/build-your-own before we went - so we saved money and it meant we could jump the queues when we got there too. Also there are quite a few places that are free at selected days/times so it's worth checking that out too - we went to Bronx Zoo on a Wednesday because they don't charge admission on that day. I found this website good for Broadyway offers https://www.broadwaybox.com/ and had a coupon that saved us more money than going to the tkts booth at Times Square would have.
