Hoops- Hire or Buy?

lydeep, 16 April, 2012 at 10:55 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi all,

I know that a few people have written about Hoops but I can't seem to find the thread.

I have purchased my Maggie Sottero gown at the weekend and where I got it from offer to hire the hoop for £60 which I thought was expensive or is this the going rate?

I read that a few fellow hitched subscribers have purchased their hoops from Ebay. Are you happy with them?

The dress doesn't need a hoop but due to the design of the skirt of the dress it makes the detail on it stand out better so I don't want to pay £60 to hire one if I can purchase one from somewhere like ebay.

If anyone can reccommend a particular shop on ebay I would be most grateful.

x

The dress shop where I am getting my dress from said that the underskirt/hoop will cost between £25-£45 to hire depending upon which one I go for. They said we can discuss the options when I go for my fittings and then I can decide how "sticky out" I want my dress to be if that makes sense.

Our daughter's is a double hoop and cost £45 new from the Bridal shop. They hired them out for free but they were quite grubby looking and I didnt want to 'spoil' the look of her dress when she lifted it up with a dirty underskirt so I bought her one instead.

I bought mine from ebay, and it was really reasonable. it was less than £10 for a 3 hoop skirt, and came with a good luck charm and all the hoops were removable.cant remember who the seller was and my ebay wont tell me, but worth a look!!

Thank you for all your suggestions! I think I will definitly give ebay a try I don't need a massive hoop as the dress holds itself but I find that its much easier to walk with a hoop and it lets the air flow a bit better!!

I have just bought a 3 hoop skirt of Ebay for £8 FOC P&P, I wouldn't say it was the best quality in the world but it definatly does the job. Turns out my dress looks better with just the bottom hoop but as they are all removeable and adjustable not a problem. I am only planning on wearing it for the ceromony and photos so didn't want to pay a forture. I am more than happy with it.

I bought mine online for around £10 cheaper than I could get in the dress shop and I may sell it on after my wedding.
