How do I make the ultimate cheese and pineapple hedgehog?

Secret Lemonade Drinker, 18 August, 2008 at 15:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Any tips please? I've never done one before but I need to do one for a picnic this Sunday.

Is it just half a grapfruit with tin foil on it, then cocktail sticks, skewered bits of cheese and pineapple and then something for the face?

Help please! ?

You really do have the best thread titles..... ?

I would say your idea sounds about right, I don't think there is a particularly fancy way of doing it, but I could be wrong!

As I have told you a meeellion times before - live hedgehogs are the way to go. They can 'serve' people too.

Cheese and pineapple is traditional, but I have seen glace cherries on some, and those tiny pickled onions too. you could do a face with cherries and onions.

Alternate cheese and pineapple with cheese and cocktail onion. You can use the virulently coloured e-numbery ones for extra impact. Use raisins for eyes and a maraschino cherry for a nose. Don't use very good cheddar as it crumbles when you stick the cocktail sticks in - something rubbery like gouda or edam is better.

For comedy effect, you could make a leetle one from half an orange. then bring out the proper half grapefruit one.

my sister made one recently - i recall the important things were: tinfoil. don't poke yourself in hands with the cocktail sticks (she did. a lot) and for full colour range, alternate between a light yellow cheddar and an orangey cheddar. all of her spines had cheese, then pineapple, then pickled onion.

i've found a picture if you want something to go on, he's rather cute but the meat on his snout looks a bit raw whatever it is.

whilst looking I also came across this https://fatuous.co.uk/2006/12/06/nectar-of-the-gods/ which makes me feel quite sick actually.

Perfect, thanks everyone - it's a 'meet the mum' cheese'n'pineapple'n'possibly pickled onions hedgehog, hence why it has to kick arse.

We're going to see Shakespeare with a picnic, we're doing the wine, she's doing the food - so we thought it would be good to take an offering... and you know what it's like, you never know if people prefer sweet pudding or just some cheese stuff... so I thought a hedgehog would be an unusual icebreaker.

    Poor woman.
