How do i sell my wedding dress ?

CherryVenom, 5 of February of 2021 at 16:47 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hello all you lovely Brides to Be,

My Fiancé and I have made the difficult decision to cancel our wedding.

We postponed our original wedding date from 29/08/2020 to 18/09/2020 but all this back and forth of will we be able to get married has definitely taken it's toll on us both, particularly me.

We've begun the process of cancelling everything today and while most places have been really accommodating to our decision my wedding dress boutique has a policy where nothing is refundable meaning I have to pay the balance on my dress and collect it.

I understand their point of view, they've ordered my dress from the designer and it's since been discontinued. They no longer hold the sample size so they're unable to sell this on.

I'm now faced with paying and collecting a beautiful dress that I'll never wear, as if I wasn't heartbroken enough as it is.

I'm looking for advice as per selling this dress. I've had a little look at StillWhite and other pre-loved wedding dress sellers but I'm not sure what kind of call there'd be for a plus size (Around a UK 24) there'd be.

Has any had any experience selling a plus-size dress online?

Smiley heart

No experience with plus size here but some stores specialise in selling second hand dresses. That might be your best bet as people get to try it on. No harm putting it on stillwhite either. But all I have seen it is very competitive (as many people sell dresses atm due to cancellation/ change if plans) so sadly even for a brand new/ not altered dress you can expect to get about 50%of original price (no matter if selling online or in store). Good luck with selling though. Plus size is more common nowadays so there is sure someone who would love it out there.

You could also try speaking to stores like Bridal Reloved, etc...

    Hi CherryVenom

First of all, hugs to you, you must be so upset at the moment.

My advice would be to collect your dress and then WAIT. As other posters have said, the market is currently flooded with everything wedding related, particularly dresses.

If at all possible, could your dress be safely stored for a little while to allow time for the pre-loved markets to become a little less crowded? You might get a bit more for it, particularly as it is brand new.

There is a forum on Hitched to sell things, but I've never used it, so can't comment on it. I have bought and sold on sellmywedding.co.uk. Prices on there seem a little higher, and there is no transaction fee as there is on Ebay. You could also try gumtree, stillwhite, sellmyweddingdress etc.

Oddly enough, I have literally just posted a new thread about pre-loved bridal and occasion wear!

To add to Ali's great and extensive list there are loads of FB marketplaces that are specialists in second hand dresses, Etsy could be a good option to, and try bride2bride
