How do you hang your Christmas wreath?

KB3, 3 December, 2008 at 15:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 22

Our front door is mainly glass, with a little wood at the bottom. I've never been able to hang a wreath and wondered if any hitchers had an idea as to how I can do it? My mum suggested fastening some kind of wire / pipe cleaners together to hook over the top of the door and nail it to the back but I'm hoping their might be another solution?

I really miss having a wreath on the front door.

Most DIY shops that sell christmas decs and wreaths usually stock wreath hangers that hook over the top of your door.

You can get hooks with suckers but last year i used those stick on hooks that are easily removable - you sort of pull the sticky bit down and when it snaps back it loses its stickiness. i'll see if i can find them - i think they are made by sellotape.

With one of those over the door wreath holders. I got mine from B&Q years ago but let me see if I can find a link to one so you have an idea what I'm talking about

There will probably be better ways of doing it but I just got a long length of ribbon (same colour as the flowers within the wreath) and looped it around some of the wire within the wreath then passed the ribbon over the top of the front door and secured it with sellotape on the inside of the door. You could always fix it better with something else or cover the selloptape up with another decoration if you didn't want it on show

    These i think

stuck them to the glass and when it came off there was no mark at all, 3M not sellotape

My mum has a nail in the masonary. It means it's there all year round but I guess you never know when a random nail will come in handy. ?

MiL doesn't like wreaths so we don't have one here. ?

I tried to look for a hook last year but nowhere had anything and the sales assistants looked at me like I was an idiot.

    Thanks all ?

My mum had a permanent nail in her wooden front door for hanging a wreath. She's just had a new uPVC door fitted and I'm waiting for the confused "how do I hand my wreath" call.

We didn't want to nail our door so my dad tied a bit of long string to the wreath and looped the other end. the looped end goes over out door handle and the string goes up the inside of the door, over the top and the wreath hangs down in the middle of the front door. I was surprised it works bit it does, the weight of the wreath keeps it in position and you just adjust it at the start to get it to hang in the middle.

To add, I'm currently sat at my desk colouring said piece of string in with permanent marker as we painted our door black earlier this year ? It's harder than you would think

Nothing like a handy nail, is there! I used to have one in the door of my old house - ideal for hanging wreaths!

I'm having to let it dry every now and again because I hold it by black bit (well it seems more navy) and gett a line on my fingers. I have one dab though

    Exhibit A

I get bored at one end so move to the others thinking it's quicker but no it doesn't seem to be.

    Exhibit B

That's taken about 20 minutes ? I don't know why I'm bothering- it's not as if our door was string coloured last year, it was darkish brown!

You can buy a wreath hanger from a garden centre or high street shops. We bought one, but we can't use it as our door is swollen slightly and when we use it, the door won't shut. There was a nail in the door when we moved in, so we wound some string to that and hung the wreath up. I made my own wreath this year, so it was bloody going up if it killed me.

Oh really? Might have to send the kids down there. I can't be doing with sitting in traffic. It's a nightmare there since they started the roadworks.

I have some ribbon tied to the back of mine which is drawing pinned to the top of the door with a flat headed pin. Not the outside door though, it wouldn't last 5 minutes! The inside porch door.

This is also an awesome way to hang cards (even if I do say so myself! ?)

I use garden twine (dark green because I have a dark green front door)

I suspend the wreath on the twine at the height I want it and with thick, strong gaffer tape I fasten the twine on the top of the door. On the top top, not the top of with of the sides iyswim?

The gaffer tape isn't enough to take the weight of the wreath but all it does it keeps it central so that I can then tether the end of the twine to whatever door furniture I choose on the inside of the door (usually my security chain bracket) and that takes the weight.
