How do you make your Pimms?

HeidiHole, 1 of May of 2009 at 15:07 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

My SIL and her family are popping in to us on Monday afternoon on their way back from a weekend away, I thought it might be nice to make a cake and some Pimms for them.

So, how do you make yours?

Nice idea. I do 1 part Pimms, 5 parts lemonade, ice, chopped orange, apple & lemon but I don't think I'm as generous as some on the alcohol front!

In a really, really, big jug ?

Mostly with lemonade, usually add orange, mint, cucumber, apple, sometimes strawberries.

It's also nice with ginger beer instead of lemonade.

    Excellent, thank you.

Now, do you peel your fruit/Cucumber? I love my SIL, she's brilliant, and also much more refined than me so I don't want to look like a chud ?

I def peel the orange & lemon otherwise you can't eat but not the apple as it looks nicer. Note, I don't like cucumber but it is traditional!

I make it with half (diet) lemonade and half soda - I think it is nicer if it's a bit less sweet. But given what SGL says, I actually think 1/3rd lemonade, 1/3rd soda and 1/3rd ginger ale might be ideal!

Don't peel the cucumber for the pimms, but do for the sandwiches ?

    Aww, thanks peeps, that's fab.

Will buy both diet lemonade and ginger ale tomorrow and do a taste test beforehand, it's only right isn't it...?

What's all this part pimms part lemonade business? I simply pour into a jug, add ice & fruit then top up with lemonade if necessary ?

I don't peel the orange, I like chewing the pimms soaked flesh from the skin, but then I'm not very sophisticated either. ?

Shhh, that's my recipe for special friends ?

Sophie - I'm liking the soda water suggestion, I find lemonade very sweet too. I think we need to find a time to try it out.

Another for rind on the orange, definitaly needs mint and cucumber and whatever other fruit I have. Since moveing here I'm a convert to ginger ale, I used to use a rather tart, cloudy lemonade back in the UK but all lemonade here is still and sprite certainly doesn't cut it!

I do pimms - lots of - with a decent slug of gin - little slug of roses lime - fat free lemonade (have it fatty if you like but do some soda too) orange slices (fat but not wedges and with rind on) cucumber (rind on) and mint leaves

    keep tasting until perfecto

Big jug, throw in lots of pimms and fruit, top up with lemonade or champagne. Mmmmmm. I quite fancy some now. Well not precisely now, it's a bit early but later today

In a big jug with apples, mint, cucumber, lemon, oranges and 1/4 Pimms and the rest lemonade. If I'm making the Pimms for a BBQ or party I will add dark rum to it as well! ?

Edited to add that I peel nothing for the Pimms
