How do you 'wash' laminate floor?

Sparkley, 7 August, 2009 at 14:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

I have really crappy laminate in my hallway and bedrooms. I really hate it, but wouldn't have carpet and can't afford proper nice wooden flooring.

Anyway, I find it a nightmare to clean. I must admit I use one of those floor wipes which are pretty crap. To get it really clean do I need to get a proper mop and bucket ?

It doesn't help that I have a beautiful, but mucky cat that leaves cat litter everywhere and a boyfriend who has filthy work boots! He does take them off as soon as he opens the front door, into the laminated floor hallway, but there is always a bit of muck & mud by the front door. Those floor wipe things just don't get rid of it properly.

As I see it you have two options - hands and knees with kitchen roll and a multi-surface spray OR a bucket and a mop. I go with the bucket and mop option once or twice a week and then do occasional "spot cleaning" if my dog leaves the odd stray pawprint as he runs through. I prefer laminate over carpet any day of the week personally ...

I hover the floor first then mop and bucket. My H walks all sorts of crap through the house from garage to garden to driveway. Drives me insane but I shan't be cleaning for much longer, he'll be doing it.

I mop our floor. I've got a flat-headed mop attachment that can be removed and washed in the machine after use. It's a bit like a really thick towel. I don't use a bucket, but fill the kitchen sink and ring the mop cover things in that. When I had more storage, I used a proper mop and bucket, but I have no preference. I do our floor once a week. OH hoovers and I follow with the mop.

You could get this - I *really* want one to match my vac!

Ooooooooooh That looks fab, thanks - I think I might get that.

    It's such a bloomin chore isn't!

I love my carpet in the lounge, but it's the only room I will have a carpet in.

? Lois and everyone else for your suggestions ?

Not as sad as making it a 'special' joint purchase in lieu of having a life!
