How do your neighbours annoy you?

Erin8, 2 of February of 2013 at 16:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 1 28

My neighbours annoy me and l like to think l am not in the minority feeling like this! I am not a miserable old bag honest but they drive me insane with the noise (door slamming, shouting, crying, screaming, furniture moving etc). Filling the entrance hall with stuff particularly by the stairs so it is like an assault course getting up or down them and not cleaning the entrance hall -it's always muggings here who ends up doing it! Oh yeah and leaving the post on the mat -l think they think is our job or something as they step over it.

My neighbors are lovely. The one thing they do that annoys me is have sex with their headboard against the wall so that I can feel my wall shaking! Plus I sleep against the wall so I can feel the vibrations. Haha! Bless them, they'd be mortified if they knew!

My next door neighbour has a teenage son, who LOVES playing his electric guitar. His fave time to play, is during my toddlers nap times.

But then we have 4 young kids, so I bet they hate the noise that comes from our house too.

Our neighbours are so noisy it is one of the reasons we are moving now rather than saving up a bit longer, as we originally planned. This time we are going to a detached after 2 years of noise hell here, and 1 year with noisy neighbours at our previous house!

The ones at the back built a horrible shelter thing where they put one of those outdoor heaters and have loads of parties. It used to be quite regular but (touch wood) seems to have slackened off lately. But they got a dog which howls and cries constantly, so not much of an improvement.

Next door's soon also has parties that go on til 5am every now and again. When he is back at uni the dad is constantly DIYing, so we permanantly hear some form of banging/drilling. When it isn't DIY then it is awful karaoke coming from the teenage girl in the conservatory. When it isn't any of those things it is the endless slamming of every door in their house, plus their front door, which causes our doors to shake in the hinges. I don't know how one small family can be so noisy! Even when they run up or down stairs our walls shake and we hear every footstep. Currently they have a problem with their plumbing, so for the last 2 months every time they flush the toilet we hear a long low pitched wailing noise as the cistern refills itself. For some reason they haven't bothered to sort this out, maybe they like it, or maybe they are deaf from the daughter's karaoke wailing and can't actually hear the plumbing noise.

We live in a regular semi by the way, not a flat. There may as well be no wall between us at all.

Thye have a toddler who has cried since the day he was born.

But they are lovely people so the most annoying thing they are doing is moving house! Could get far worse next!

(Any Hitchers want to buy a nice cottage in Kent???)

The woman, morticia lookalike, in her late 50s, comes home with bad dance music blarring out of her car, beeps the horn until her hubby hears to open up the gates to the drive way, sits for 3/4 minutes listening to the end of the track then goes inside, every night! She's so annoying, loud, rude, weird, and we also think she has a sex dungeon in her front room as she never opens the curtains

Part of the reason we are moving is our noisy neighbours plus we want a house and to have a garden. Why do people love to slam doors so much?!

So it's not just me with neighbour issues! Lots of freaky and selfish behaviour by the sounds of it. The rubbish thing is vile, the washing thing is odd and l am intrigued (not in a good way!) by the Morticia Adams double with her weird / rude behaviour. I have tried politely asking them to be more quiet but they clearly have taken no notice of that. Maybe l need to start getting nasty e.g. banging on the ceiling like a mad old woman (our flat is above their flat) or have a chat with the landlord... I would love to get my university friends round for an all night party -drinking, loud music, people going up and down the stairs every few minutes to go outside for a cigarette etc to give them a taste of their own medicine. But the moral high ground is a good place to be.

My neighbours kid down stairs runs up and down the wooden floored hall and all I can hear is the thump, thump, thump. It's irritating.

Im probably lucky though if that's all I'm complaining about.

The ones joined to us are old busy bodies. Got petitions in their car windows etc. They stick notes through our door if there is anything they don't like. They have their Tele on really loud so can we can hear eastenders in our house. They play music in their kitchen which you can here upstairs in our house and it sounds like drum and bass. She sings a lot. She's always telling him off. These are all the things I'll tell them next time our dog dares to bark and disturb them. Oh and the postman delivered my package to them this week because we wasn't in. I went round 3 times when I knew they were in and knocked for ages with no answer, later that night she knocks on my door demanding why I haven't been round did I not receive the post note???! When my friend moved into her house though, her then neighbours came round and complained they could hear them switching the light switches and could they do it more quietly! My friend has since had 2 children so god help her neighbours now!

Mostly we don't get annoyed. Only irritation that really gets to me is the local kids riding quad bikes round the back field and turning it into a muddy swamp. We are making enquiries to buy the field for ourselves and watch their gypsy faces when we fence it off. Hahahaha.

I feel pretty lucky compared to some of you lot!

The only thing that gets on my nerves occasionally is when people fill up our rubbish bin. No idea who it is, but it gets right on my nerves when it happens, as bin men wont take anything not in a wheelie bin. Therefore if ours is full (of other peoples toot) and there's no where to put our rubbish, we're in a bit of a pickle!

I left a note just before Xmas and it was taken down within a couple of hours. I suspect someone was feeling guilty about loading our bin up 2 days before xmas with another week before the next collection! Hasn't happened since.

I hate my neighbours. Absolutely cant stand them. They are in their forties yet play banging rave music sometimes till 5am on a Sunday morning, they have sex ridiculously loudly all day long every Monday and Tuesday (I assume these are their days off). Now they have got this demon horny cat which is constantly trying to attack/sh*g my Pops. It also scratches our front door and licks our back window. I have knocked and complained to them loads of times. There was a ray of hope when their house went up for sale but the sign has come down. We are thinking twice about re-newing our contract which is a shame as we have done loads of redecorating and we love our house and area. I really really hate them.

Could you call up their estate agent pretending to be someone interested? The EA might then get them all keen in the idea of moving again.

I think we're the annoying ones out of the two of us. Our neighbours are about our age, so cant really complain about any partys/late nights as we're the same - but I'd say we must annoy them generally. We have a barking dog at stupid hours in the morning which coincides with us shouting at him (occassionally in the very very early hours of the morning), he barks at really random times as well when playing, wanting food, hearing noises - so yes, he's not quiet. I have a habit of hoovering at around 10pm at night as I can never be bothered when I first get home. If OH is home alone he has the TV on so loud! I quite often park on the curb when on the late shift as OH will get home before me and leave before too, so I cant block him in the drive - when I do this, I hang over their side of the fence too so if they wanted to park on their bit of curb, they wouldnt be able too (I only do it so OH can swing out the drive easily).

They've never said anything though..and we try be quite pleasant generally.

They occassionally slam their kitchen cupboards, which generally we only hear when we're in ours so I guess thats not really annoying. They also seem to have really clean cars which make ours look awful (I havent washed mine since the summer and we live in the country with muddy roads - so you get the picture!). They also seem to have friends round often, and because they smoke they often hang outside their front or back door - usually when we want to leave the house. This is awkward as often when we're leaving our house, we want to leave in a rush and they keep trying to talk to us - thats pretty annoying ?

That's so strange. I would probably just move to be honest rather than put up with them. Boinking is the one thing our neighbours actually do quietly!

One side is Polish and they often have noisy parties and smoke a lot of weed (in their garden!!) this means that if I hang my washing up I bring it in stinking of weed. And if I have my back door open in the summer in comes the smell then comes in my house Smiley sad it really isn't nice. And if I'm on the phone or something outside they copy what I say trying to put on a British 'accent'. They also mod up their ridiculous cars and bikes and drive them in the square outside our houses at 3AM. I've also had items of their clothing, beer cans, cigarettes etc chucked in my garden. They are awful Smiley sad

The other side are a bit ignorant and have a huge dog that barks whenever my door gets knocked on/I leave the house/postman is here etc. But id have that over the Polish ones any day!!!

One side are an old couple who are both hard of hearing. Thier phone is so loud that it wakes us up when it rings.

The otherside the house has been split into 2 flats. Upstairs neighbour is fabulous, we couldnt ask for bettwe,

Downstairs has a constant stream of council tennants in every 6 months. The latest has bought a large black tomcat with them who keeps harrasing my babies. HarryCat and him were just having a fight in the garden. I had to intervene.

The only neighbour that really annoys me is the guy across from us. His mother is elderly and very ill, he takes care of her full time and there is a stream of nurses in and out everyday. For some reason he has removed their name/number from the buzzer so the nurses/pharmacists etc ALWAYS buzz us to get into the building. For the sake of the old woman I don't mind letting them in but he is a thankless arsehole. If a parcel is delivered when we are out he refuses to take it and we have to get it from the sorting office 3 miles away and we don't have a car. He is in the flat all day everyday, would it really be so bad for him to leave a parcel inside his door for a few hours??? ?

He also once called the police when my H was filming a short video outside our flat. The filming was inside our flat then at a friend's car on the street outside, a camera never pointed in the direction of this guy's flat but he told the police he suspected someone was using specialist equipment to listen in to the flats in the building. Paranoid nutter! The police just rolled their eyes when my H explained what was happening. Why he didn't poke his nose out and speak to my H before calling the police we have no idea. I always smile and say hello to him when I see him, then close the door and secretly give him the finger.
