How early is too early for Save the Dates

Josiemorganhewitt, 19 August, 2021 at 10:16 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 2 20
We are getting married in 2023 - wedding venue is about an hour away from where we all love. When would people suggest sending out Save The Dates? I’m just caution that so many people have plans that have been changed and rescheduled to upcoming years due to COVID

Hello! We’re getting married June 2023 and I sent our Save the Dates out a few weeks ago. Like you said with everything going on with Covid and rearrangement of holidays, I wanted to give plenty of time to give people notice. Hope this helps Smiley smile

We sent out straight away, our wedding date is only 10 months from booking, but I honestly thing is fine to send straight away. you will get people asking have you booked a date yet and is just easier if you have sent to your day guests already. We put an insert in ours to say if they knew they couldn't come as had holiday/other commitment already then to let us know, this has made it so much easier to bump people up to our day list and send them a save the date earlier so 1, we know if they can come and 2) it doesn't look like they were a last minute addition

My caution to this and maybe it was more covid related, we found our friendship group changed. There were people who we sent save the dates to that we didn't feel like inviting by the time it came round. Wish in some way we had to runs of them, first early distribution to family and a second maybe a year before to friends.

Yes that’s what I thought! Although the majority of the guest list did the day is actually family due to my OH having a huge family and a handful of friends

    Hiya

We're getting married in June 2023 and are in the process of sorting our save the dates to send out in the next month or so. As you said I'm worried people might start arranging holidays etc much further in advance with everything going on and I'd hate to have someone missing on the day because of this
I think what we're planning to do is send the save the dates to our definite all day guests now (e.g family) and then will send a second batch a bit closer to the time for guests which may change

We are Oct 2023 so thinking after Christmas we will get them sent! To be honest, our day guests are mainly family and a small handful of close friends so think we should be ok x

We're getting married in April 2023 and I sent out our Save the Dates in May this year. Due to all the Covid weddings being rescheduled etc I wanted to make sure I let everyone know as early as possible not to book anything else in that day.

I was just about to ask this question. I'm getting married June 2023 and didn't know when the right time to send Save the dates.
I will get them ordered and sent as soon as possible now. X

This is so helpful, thank you so much! And so true about friendship groups changing. We're Oct 23 but we're staying in England so hoping our families will be able to make it and hotels won't book up to quickly.

We are getting married in July 2023 and I was thinking of sending our Save the Dates around May time next year so it is just before a year in advance and hopefully before anyone books a holiday for 2023. We have told our close family and friends who we would really like there the date already so they have it in their diary already.

This never even crossed my mind. I’m so glad for this forum 🥰: we are getting married July 23. I think I’ll send ours out in the next few months once I’ve finalised our guest list. Invites probably several months before. A lot of our guests will be travelling a few hours and will need to find accommodation etc. We are not having a weekend wedding either so guests might need to put leave in. 😬 we never thought about that when we booked our date.

I'm getting married August 2023,book registry office yesterday and ordered my save the dates an hour later, I'm sending them out as soon as they arrive. As people plan a few years in advance and I also have family that live miles away so they will need to plan travel etc. Never too early in my opinion, it will soon be here.

I'm getting married September 2022, we've been thinking about the same thing. We was going to wait until January, but so many people have said to send them before December so we're still deciding.

Ah I'm so glad I found this! We are getting married in June 2023 and I want to send them out now but thought I was going mad and shouldn't send them yet! Looking at your comments I agree with you all! x

I personally sent them out ASAP and I prefer getting save the dates as soon as possible just due to a busy lifestyle. Some people book holidays waaaay in advance. Saying that I know people who’ve done the save the dates 6 months away so it’s really up to how you want to do it Smiley smile
