How good is No More Nails ?

jelly baby, 11 September, 2008 at 14:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

I want to put a wooden venetian blind in the bathroom. When we had them put it two of the bedrooms it was a nightmare and the handyman ended up having to bodge it as couldn't drill into the lintel (I was them recessed). I was thinking maybe No More Nails would work at holding it up. Has anyone tried this ?

Is there anyway you can fix them to side of the reveal rather from above? Failing that I've found Gripfill better than No More Nails for sticking things stupidly well.

Nope can't drill into the sides either. Well, handyman did it with a massive industrial drill thingy but we aren't happy with him so don't want to get him back. Oh and it meant some weird wooden blocks things were visible which meant we had to put some kind of curtain thing up to disguise them and I don't want to do that in bathroom.

What sort of finish is the wall? Paper/paint/tiles? The fixing will only really be as strong as the finish, if it's wallpaper it may easily tear off with the weight? Gripfill is still probably the best option though.

Definitely needs a strong surface to work - I put up a rack of door hooks on one of our walls. When I pulled on it to check if it had worked it came off, along with some paint and plasterwork - it stayed stuck to the door hooks though!

Hhhmm, it's paint on plaster. I'm a bit worried about trying it as it might look worse if it falls off (and pulls bits off with it) than the roman blind that is up at the moment.

I think screwfix do a stightly cheaper version which does exactly the same, but with a better name [childish snigger]:

We stuck a shelf up in our kitchen with NoMoreNails. It's an internal wall, so nothing stronger than plasterboard... We never put anything too heavy on there as we weren't too confident that it would hold, but then we had our kitchen redone and the chap doing it put a generator on the shelf ?

That shelf is not shifting. It's there forever. If we need to take it down, I think we'll have to remove the wall.

Ooo, Rachel that's quite reassuring. Maybe I should give it a go.

Well, I think it's only as good as the surface you're sticking it to. Plasterboard is obviously stronger than I thought it was...

We have two shelves in our airing cupboard that have been put up with no more nails and we put everything on there! Towels, cleaning bits, a cake stand, additional pillows and a duvet, a blanket etc. I think one wall is a brick wall and the other is plasterboard!
