How long do civil ceremonies take?

JackieS, 11 July, 2010 at 17:22 Posted on Planning 0 13

H2B and I are trying to organise our timings of the day and firstly we need to know roughly how long ceremonies take (including the signing of the regsister) - we aren't having any readings so I'm assuming it'll be quite quick but aren't sure how long to allocate!

A friend of ours got married in 8 minutes..... we were out in about 20 mins.... then had about 2 hrs to wait for the meal, was a bit pants if i'm honest. So plan your timings wisely Smiley smile

My probably only lasted about 20mins with 2 readings but tbh I can't really remember. The vows section lasts about 5 mins max.

From the start of the ceremony to the finish, including the signing photography the timings are pretty close to 20 minutes. Extra elements such as readings naturally will make this longer.

We also have been told 20-30 minutes.

I guess it just depends how fast everyone talks. Knowing me, blubing my way through will probably make everything twice as long.

We were told to allow 30 mins. Hopefully we can make it last longer with 2 speeches & 2 songs as we too have 2 hours between ceremony & meal (could only get a 12pm ceremony rather than 2pm)

I have ben at weddings that are very quick and some that are a little longer. If you are allowing 30 minutes(and assuming you won't be late) you should be fine.
