How long does fruit cake last?

Did it have booze in it? The alcohol will help with the keeping.

And where has it been stored? Somewhere nice and cool, it should be fine. Somewhere warm (ie the kitchen), you might not be so lucky.

If it's a rich fruit cake the sugar content will mean that no self-respecting bacterium or mould would touch it so it'll be fine indefinitely. You'll spot if it's not OK as it'll be mouldy. Good idea to feed it with some brandy in the mean time.

I've sniffed it but I'm not keen on fruit cake any way so I can't tell whether it smells nice or not ?

It was kept in the kitchen but well away from the oven and stuff as it was a long, thin kitchen. It was probably the coolest place in the house.

Lots of brandy in it and I'm certainly not adverse to putting some more in.
