How long is your first dance?

2013_Bride_, 17 January, 2013 at 15:05 Posted on Planning 0 9

Our first dance song is quite long and I'm just wondering at what point we should think about lowering / ending it!

We chose a short one, about three minutes with a very definite end.

What song is it? Might you be able to find a radio edit as these tend to be shorter than the proper single (if the proper single is long)?

You don't have to end it early if your DJ/Band invite people onto the dance floor after a couple of minutes?

An option a lot of people go for, so they're not out there on their own for too long, is to get the DJ to invite friends and family to join them part way through, or even certain people at certain points in the song. I often get waved at part way through a song to invite everyone else up to join, normally by a panicked groom ?

Also, check out my Top 10 First Dances blog post is anyone needs some inspiration. It's a few years old now though - must do an update!

The only problem with that is I'm following the first dance with a dance with my dad (in which I was planning on inviting others up to join at that point).

Ahhh right, the only thing I can think of, though it could be a tad cringe, is for the DJ to blend the end of the first dance with the start of the dance with your Dad and have your Dad come and take the place of OH.

Sorry if that's a crap suggestion!

We're learning a fancy 3 minute dance to a track, then we'll have a longer track and do a simple waltz, Team Bride and Team Groom will be prepped to join in and the DJ will encourage others to, too.
