How many bottles of wine?

Kirsty jo, 4 April, 2008 at 20:41 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi

We are buying all my wine and champaign for our reception.

Does anyone know how many glasses a wine bottle holds (Im having 80 guests so trying to work out how much wine and champaign we will need!!)

And how many people per bottle of champaign - for toasts

how many people per bottle of champaign - for bucks fizz

Thanks x (might just get a bottle and test it myself!!)?

It all depends on how big the glasses are.

I'd say 4 glasses from red/white wine and 4-5 from champagne.

I think Fenella is about right. Its about 4 glasses in a red/white wine bottle. A little bit more in champers cos the glasses are smaller. Not sure how many glasses per person though. You would probably only need 1 glass of champers for the toasts. (depends how flush you are I sopose)

Most average wine bottles at 70cl or 700ml, so see how much each glass at your venue holds approx 1/2 full. We worked on 1/2 bottle per person but then also accounted for people we knew wouldn't drink or would drink beer etc from the bar.
For champagne/sparkling, we had 7 bottles for approx 40 guests (6 glasses per bottle) and also offered Schloer as we had a few teetotallers & pregnant guests.
I guess for Bucks Fizz it would 1/2 as much.

Hi - I would say half a bottle per person (that's about 2 generous glasses per person) and two glasses of champers per person (maybe a bit more champagne in a bottle). Thats what we're having for the wedding breakfast).

We just worked this out last weekend cos my parents are starting to stock up for ours.

Bottle of wine is about 5 glasses (4 if large glasses but I would hope people wouldn't fill them up to the brim!). Champagne 6 - 7 and then for Bucks Fizz you would have about 1/2 glass champagne so 12 - 14 glasses per champagne bottle (although I would be tempted to buy cheaper stuff / sparking wine for mixing with OJ).

1/2 bottle of wine per person is the standard recommended amount and then for the toasts everyone only needs 1 glass champers. For reception drinks people would probably drink 2-3 glasses but depends how long the reception is. (I would say approx 1 drink per hour).

If this helps, for 130 people we are buying (off the top of my head so approx) 25 bottles of champers for toast (another 50 for reception drinks but just having plain champagne) and 1 case each (36 bottles) of red and white wine. That's just for the day...you should see the figures for the evening!

Think we worked out about £6-7 per bottle of wine and £15 per bottle champers and plus beer and some soft drinks we're looking at around £2k on drink.

    HTH!

We went to visit a potential reception venue tonight and were told about 4 glasses per bottle and suggested we have half a bottle per person.

Hi, we've been doing all the sums too. If you can do it, you can save a small forture by getting your own booze. We were told that the venue would charge £10 per bottle corkage. But we got them down to £10 per box.

We went to France at Easter, and got some really good wine for £7 per 3 lite box! We have managed to put a litre of red, white and Rose per table, for £15 per table inc corkage (their house wine was £16 a bottle!!)

We also bought a mini bottlesof champagne each for the toasts, which is about 2 glasses. The best bit, we told the venue they are favours, as we have bought and personalised glasses for everyone (£38 for 110!) and they dropped the corkage on the mini bottles.

So my advice, get as much wine as you feel you can afford, but don't be scared to try and get better value for money.
