How many bottles of wine would you buy?

30 January, 2009 at 09:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

We're having a party at our house this weekend, with about 30 - 40 people coming.

I'm planning on making pitchers of cocktails - Blue Lagoon (vodka and blue bols) and one with Raspberry Vodka and lime. Oh and Mojitos and Pineapple Flirtinis (cointreau and cava with pineapple juice). I'm doing really simple food stuff - pizzas and a few nibbles, crisps and dips so I don't have to spend too long worrying baout it - cocktails are going to be complicated enough!!

I'm planning on getting some wine and beer too...but I have no idea how much wine to buy. Mr S said 6 bottles, assuming that people will bring wine...do you think that's enough?

6 of each perhaps, but it might not be enough for our crowd!

I wouldn't say so, I'd go for at least 20. I wouldn't want to presume people will bring wine in case they don't. And if you have loads left over then it's not really a hardship ?

In my child-free days, we'd have 6 botles of wine between 4 of us on a good night.

I'd cater 1/3 - 1/2 of a bottle per person. If you've got some left over, it'll always keep

40 people = half wine half beer. So 20 bottles and probably 8-10 crates of beer, with a couple of crates of cider thrown in for good measure.

Depends on whether your guests are wine drinkers, spirit drinkers or beer drinkers. for those numbers, i d have at least 30 bottles of wine, 5 bottles of vodka, 3 bottles of gin, 3 jack daniels etc, plus assorted mixers. you cant guarantee that the men will drink the cocktails you make, but they may well drink spirits, so if i was you i wouldnt go mad with the cocktail thing. plus, its a quick way to make the party end early, and messily if youre giving out cocktails.

If you're not sure then places like Majestic Wine do boxes of wine on sale or return. When I did a work do they told me they'd take back an opened box too.

    Have a great party. x

I think if I was invited to a party where my host said she was doing cocktails, I'd expect more than just one on arrival!
