How many groomsmen is too many?

I think that's way to many! Unless you are having 500 people at your wedding?

In my experience, men really aren't that bothered about being officially involved.

People have Groomsen now? I would say seven was far too many. What role do they play?

We had the Best Man, and 3 ushers (2 of my brothers and OH's youngest brother) and the 2 page boys and 2 bridesmaids. Never even considered a Groomsman - what is their role?

To the OP - that does sound like an awful lot - think of the cost of the suits ?

I don't think seven is too many, per se (but then again I'm American where huge wedding parties aren't unusual but also where the wedding party pays for their own clothing), but if clothing cost is an issue then the number you have should fit within your budget.

Yeah I as well think they are too many and I agree with kharv, most men arent bothered about having a role (apart from the closest one who would expect to be a best man). My OH is having 2 best men and I am having 4 bridesmaids. The 2 dads will be dressed the same as the groom though. 7 is too many! I think his best man will be enough to be honest if you are having so many bridesmaids and page boys and flower girls! wow! Maybe he could chose another 3 of his best mates to be groomsmen so you have the same number but if he doesnt want to pick then he should stick to having a best man!

Groomsmen is all the groom's party, so best man and ushers all together are the groomsmen, like we call all the girls bridesmaids lol

We had none, It was the right number for us.

I sang at a wedding that had 7 bridesmaids and 7 accompanying groomsmen (down the aisle) and it looked (IMHO) ridiculous in an ordinary village church.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I read somewhere that if your going on the "normal" rules you should have 1 groomsmen/usher to every 50 guests or there around........ Of course I could be talking gibberish because for the life me I can't remember where I read it !
