How many slow songs are you having?

2013_Bride_, 29 January, 2013 at 15:18 Posted on Planning 0 5

We will be having our first dance song.

Then my Dad wants to do a father / daughter dance but I'm kind of wanting to have this as the one where everyone else can join in as I don't think I can cope with two songs worth of people watching me! (Also how boring for them!).

But I really would love to then go back to OH for another dance, with no-one watching, i.e. one where everyone is dancing with us.

3 is probably a bit much though! Damn.

We've shot a wedding where there were 4 and it wasn't a problem at all. Everyone gathered around, watched, swayed and it was actually really lovely. No one seemed bored- although if I was asking this question myself I would totally anticipate guests being bored after one!

There was the B&G first dance

    Father daughter dance

    Daughter and step-dad dance

Then the grandparents had their own dance.

I don't know if it's the bride and grooms decision, or the DJ's but there have been lots of occasions where half way through a dance everyone is called up to the dance floor to join and the couple continue to dance, or have another song. If you mention it to the DJ I don't think there would be a problem Smiley smile

I wouldn't even notice if there were a few slow dance songs played after the first dance - I'm an old romantic though ;o)

Our best man kinda had all 3 at his wedding last year but didn't have all 3 in a row which worked nicely I thought. They had their first dance and the DJ asked people to join them on the dancefloor halfway through, then towards the end of the night when everyone was already up on the dancefloor they had the father daughter dance. They ended with everyone on the dancefloor around the bride and groom singing/dancing to never forget by take that which isn't really my cup of tea at all usually, but it was very them and everyone was a bit merry and got into it and it went down really well!

I think you can get away with a few slow songs towards the end of the night, that's what we're planning to do seeing as most of our favourite music is slow/depressing! We can't really slot in There Is A Light That Never Goes Out halfway through the disco, it'd kill the atmosphere a bit! ?

    Hi

In my experience, it really depends on the crowd and how desperate the masses are to pile on to the dance floor. Sometimes having two or more slow dances to start works really well and gives opputinuty for father / daughter dance - and often a whole family dance Smiley smile Other times, guests will be too desparate to join, and I've even had bride and groom want two slow songs and get fed up of everyone watching and disappear until something more upbeat is played!

Ultimately, do what you want. But if you have a father daughter dance after your first dance, try and go the distance! Maybe look for songs that aren't too long just in case. You can always arrange with your DJ beforehand for him to watch out for your signal if you get bored so he can fade something else in.

I dont know about others but where I come from its traditional that others join in after the wedding party so they certainly woukdnt be sitting watching us all through the song, that sounds attrocious.
