How much are you planning to/did you spend on your wedding?

Just wondering what people are budgeting (or did budget~) for their wedding? What things are you doing to help you stay in budget?

We budgeted 6k but after looking round one venue we fell in love and ended up spending over double our original budget

we spent around 15k all in that's without a honeymoon as other half is in army and is hard to book anything to tie in with army leave Smiley sad

We didn't really have a budget but knew not to go over the top with everything

We have ended up spending about 12k, had no idea it would be this much when we started planning xx

We didnt set a budget as such but rather had an idea of what things would cost and then added it all together. It came down to things that we 100% wanted and other things that would be nice but were not essential! All things considered we were looking at total cost 25k. Not wanting to get into debt or being able to shave much off the total cost we decided that we would have to have a longer engagment than we would have liked in order to save save save! 19 months seemed like a lifetime when we started planning but its now 9 months away and the time really has flown...its almost going a little too fast!

Orginally our budget was 3k as that was what could be saved up in the amount of time we had. Then we fell in love with a 6k venue, PIL generously offered to pay for this so our budget instantly went up to 9k!! The 3k has paid for the rest - dress, rings, TOG, DJ, hair and makeup, BM dresses, registrar fees, flowers etc etc etc.

Then OH got a promotion and pay rise last month so we are going to use his extra wages to make up any loose ends in the budget and for our honeymoon.

So our budget has gone from 3k (without honeymoon) to 11k (with honeymoon)!

We didn't have a proper budget in mind really (parents on both sides helping out massively). I had hoped to do it for around £6k but once we'd looked at quite a few venues in our area I figured that probably would be a tad unrealistic.

Overall we're looking at £8-9k for wedding plus £3.5k for honeymoon.

We've been really lucky that our parents are contributing so much or we'd have had a really long engagement. Works out well for them though as the sooner we get married, the sooner we'll get started on the babymaking! ?

I quite simply don't get this - you have nothing to be ashamed of, missy.

As Claire said earlier, one person's "cheap" is another person's "expensive". £10k can be three years of scrimping and saving, three months of disposable income or a parental wedding trust fund! Nobody should feel bad or ashamed because they were in a position to spend lots on a wedding.

We never really had a budget, we're not rolling in it, but well we're just pretty selective about things.

Fortunately O/H is getting a massive bonus of £4500 which is due in next month..no doubt Mr Taxman will enjoy that... and that helps us pay off some things straight away.

My mum and dad are buying my dress, which has worked out much less than first though.

I haven't even really thought about a honeymoon, contemplating a 'last minute' booking to save pennies there ?

We havent set a budget... its pretty hard as we dont have any savings and I dont just earn a flat salary, I work in sales so my salary can go up and down so its hard to know what we have got 'in the pot' for the wedding...

All I do know is what we planned to spend initially on things such as Photographer, videographer, cars is a few hundred more for each one because we have fallen in love with different styles and suppliers and didnt want to have less than we wanted for a few hundred pounds...

We think the whole wedding will come in around £9-10k but that doesnt include our honeymoon which will be around £6k -- that said we are living in shared accomodation and plan to do this until we are married to be able to afford all that we want, so we are passing off one thing for another I guess :-)

My budgt is £3, 500 thats including 2 nights away after for OH we have a little boy who will be 3 when we get married so with any money we get as gifts we will book a family holiday.

We are getting married and having the reception in a hotel so dont need wedding cars, im getting m&s cake and decorating myself. Family member has just finished a fashion degree so will be callling in a favour for my dress there!

Im actually hoping we dont spend that much in the end and where family have offered to pay for things we have declined and asked for the money as a wedding present or travel vouchers instead.

We didnt set a budget (d'oh) I think overall it has come in around 8k all inc honeymoon ect. Luckily I have alot of things included in the venue (alot of which I blagged) and lots of friends who do lots of things, cake maker, photographer, beauty/hair people so I am begging borring & stealing for the big day. My dress came massivly over budget but my mum paid half.

I dont think it really matters how much you spend as long as you dont get into debt with it. It seems that 5-10k is about the average!

I don't tend to mention an over all figure, not because it's particularly high nor particularly low, I was just always led to believe discussing personal finances wasn't the done thing nor do I think it's something that is of any useful information to anyone else because no two weddings are the same. If someone asks how much I'm paying for my TOG in comparison to theirs then I'll tell them, if I find a bargain I'll shout about it but I don't feel the need to discuss a total expenditure or to justify any elements of it to anyone except H2B.

Our budget is split in 3, OH's parents are paying the £622 for suits plus providing transport from the venue to around their house for guests staying with them/in our house etc so thats probably around £700 from them

My parents have given us £10,000 and we have, i think, spent around £9500 of that, the other £500 is spending money for honeymoon.

The honeymoon and rings we are paying for ourselves along with some little bits like vases and my jewellery making bits and deposits here and there where we could afford to just use our main bank accounts instead of breaking into savings.

the wedding itself including rings i think is going on £10500 including deposits and suits.

The honeymoon is only costing us around £500 plus spending money and meals because its only a minimoon and its in this country.

(we're ignoring the £90 i spent on gig tickets for our favourite band on the monday after the wedding and the hotel for that night before we head to the honeymoon)

About £25k all in. Seems like a lot now I write it down! But we aren't getting into debt for it so I don't feel too bad about it!

its the venue and ever expanding guest list that's ruined us haha!

honeymoon is £8k on top as I don't think that counts in 'wedding budget' ?

We're looking between £6000 and £7000 in total.

Budget has been a huge issue for us - we currently rent but really want to own a home, so are still trying to save for a deposit. My parents were incredibly generous helping us with some of the money, then we've chipped in the rest.

We've saved in a lot of ways, but we also had things we were unwilling to compromise on! For example, we were totally set on having a Saturday wedding, but I'm more than willing to forgo a hairdresser and MUA visiting the hotel on the morning of the wedding. Or we definitely wanted post-ceremony drinks, but are more than happy for it to be prosecco rather than champagne.

There's no 'right' amount to spend on a wedding. It's whatever makes you happiest.

Golly, I did neither Smiley winking

I also think the results here are somewhat skewed. I agree with Clare that 'big budget' girls are usually a little reticent of revealing financial details because it might sound like gloating, or being insensitive during hard financial times. But I also think the nature of this site - ideas for invitations/DIY/homemade stuff, honesty regarding budget-saving ideas without fear of snootiness - would *tend* to attract brides with slightly lower budgets (if the national average wedding cost is to be believed).

Ours will probably come in at around 20k without honeymoon. Venue and catering makes up approximately half of the total, as they were our top two priorities.

I would say around half is being paid by parents, and the rest is funded by us. We have taken out a loan recently to pay off some of the bigger lump payments as we're reaching our date BUT we've only done this because I'm guaranteed a set amount bonus from work not long after the wedding, so that will go straight to paying off the loan. It's just meant that we've been able to get what we wanted from our day without having to restrict our normal monthly spend too much. I'm not sure I'd have taken out such a big loan if we were not in a position to pay it off almost straight away x

Our weddings in 3 weeks total is £3,300 including odds and ends and getting disposable cameras developed next day!

Were having exactly what we want, posh car, photographer, big cake, ht food at reception, evening buffet and entertainment, lots decorations cameras etc, but we shopped smart saying function not wedding. Our receptions in the conservative club not hotel, bought lots va eBay. Asked lots of favours from people we know eg making cake etc. most people have friends with talents who are pleased to help.

Were paying for it all ourselves and only decided to marry in jan this year so not had long to save and plan, but were very happy with our plans, let you all know soon enough!

To be honest I think around 10 k...although i'm not sure how! We cut back on everything we could: weekday wedding, later in the day, borrowing vintage car, not paying for photographers , discoutned dj, making own cake, favours, centrepieces, invites, sweet buffet etc! It's just the little bits that add up! And to be honest I spent ( i say I - mum spent) alot on my dress! lol x
