How much do you think? Garden clearance.

LizBjk, 21 April, 2009 at 15:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

We have loads of junk in the garden. We don't drive. Going to phone around some companies to find out how much it would be to have it all removed. I'd say there was enough to fill the back of pick up van. What do you think a reasonable price is for this? I have no idea about these sorts of things, but just to give me an idea.

TIA. ?

How much someone would want depends on amount and type of stuff that needs clearing, so get a few people around to quote.

Alternatively if you have a friend who would drive for you it's probably cheaper to hire a van for the day and take it all to the tip yourself. Last time H did this it was about £40 for a day hire.

Or hire a skip to clear the garden - you can call one day and get it the next, generally keep them for a few days so you can get all the work done. we had a couple last year and they weren't too expensive

Could you get a skip? These are about £125 odd for a builders skip and are delivered and collected (obviously)

We're poor and can't afford a skip ?. That's the first thing I thought of. But prices we just can't afford at this moment in time unfortunately.

I have phoned two different companies and they are coming over tonight to give me a price. Thanks for your replies.

LizBjk, we recently looked at this and it was about 100 quid for quite alot of rubbish to be taken away (mostly garden waste to be honest).

Be careful when taking stuff to the tip as I know with our one you have to have some permit thing to dump it there if it is over a certain amount. I sure as hell didn't know this...I don't believe it costs anything though.

Yes, that's right, I'd forgotten about that.

I know that some councils count any van turning up at the tip as 'business waste' and they'll turn you away unless you have a permit or pay. Some councils will take a permit only (businesses get these sent out to them with their business rates invoices). I remember a most annoying experience at a tip where I had a very small thing (a small broken up bookcase or similar) in the back of a van, as I'd swopped vehicles that weekend with a colleague, and they wouldn't let me take the van in to the tip. Nazis ?

Thanks all. Think we got it sorted. Had two quotes. One for £120 and the other for £100. My bil's mate has a van and said he'd do it as long as we pay £10 for petrol, bargain! I phoned the local council that said I just need to give them the day we're going over, the model of the van and reg number and what will be taken there, and they'll give us a permit number. Very happy. All for £10. Can't fault it!

Our local tip usually just wants to see proof of residancy and photo id if you turn up in a van. Worth phoning ahead to see what you need to take with you as they are indeed Nazis about it all.

£10, what a bargain! Now just ask if any friends are free to help on the day and throw a barbecue/get pizzas in for them afterwards to say thanks. YOu then have a nice day/evening and a clear garden.
