How much is your stationary?

MrsB88, 10 July, 2014 at 21:32 Posted on Planning 0 25

I have recieved some invitation samples from a lady & hav fallen in love with one in particular. I just wanted to know how much your stationary for the wedding is costing you? This lady charges £5.50 each day invitation, £3.50 per evening invitation, £3.50 per table number, £1.75 per place name card, £70 for seating plan & £4 per menu. Does this seem resonable or expensive??

That's really expensive, ours were £60 for 100 invites got 40 day and 60 evening ones, really nice but we're from eBay so a bit risky but it paid off.

The rest of our stationary has been made by me so cost around £30 for materials.

We got ours from Ebay too. We paid £68 for 80 invites and £30 for save the dates and the table numbers were £4 each.

They sound expensive to me, but then my Save the dates have only cost me £15, plus a ream of paper and box of envelopes, so I'm probably not the best judge of price.....

Whoa. ? Our invitations were £17 for 50 from Vistaprint. Our place cards were £50 for 50 from Macmillan Cancer (and had a packet of seeds attached). That's all the stationery we had. £70 for a seating plan? Wtf is it made of?? ?

I think it's a lot of money for the day invites particularly

I got 100 invites for £80 on a Groupon deal, we're then planning to use the art work from the PDF proof for all other stationary; we may need to invest in a new printer or be naughty and print from work ;-)

It is reasonable for handmade invites. Five dollar shake (look online) charge similar.

The lowest I found was £1 not inc rsvps and it was just so much I decided to make my own. I copied a hand made invite that I had seen online and was reAlly chuffed with the results. Went to hobby craft and bought a pack of 100 plain white cards with envelopes. They even had a linen look for only £16 for 100. I spent a further £15 on materials and then £10 on 100 RSVP cards from ebay. As I have so many guests I was trying to save costs. With the leftover material I bought 2 canvases off ebay and will use the same materials I used on the invites for my order of the day and my table plan (a1 canvas was £7 and a2 was £5) I am a perfectionist and changed my mind a million times. On ebay I bought place cards with a linen look background for 10p each (they are stunning) and menus are from the works which I will hand make myself. I have spent no more than £100 on all the stationery but this was only because I have such a large number if guests I had to try and keep costs down where I could. If it's in your budget and you love the design then go for it. Always worth spending if it's something you really love x

That does seem expensive, I've seen place name cards for as little as 80p on some websites. If your on facebook look kara's designs do gorgeous bespoke wedding stationary at very reasonable prices or there is clover leaf who also do bespoke stationary.

WWedding invitations with two inserts one about gifts (I know I know) and one about directions 55 of them all Cost less than 10 pounds and a evenings work my fiance is awesome with I.t so made ours and everybody complimented them because they was very personal to us :-) were in the mindset utilise skills we have available so we can buy the ones we don't comfortably :-) but in one bridal shop the woman did say every bride has am area they just don't want to compromise on if yours is your invite and it's affordable to you then go with what makes you happy but can't deny they are very expensive!

It does seem expensive but it depends how complex they are and the amount of work involved. Could you give a link or a flash of the style so we can better judge perhaps?

It's something that's been talked about loads on here and that is that people just don't like to pay for another person's time and they think handmade means cheap. If someone is in business then they have to make a living. Ornate/complex invitations etc take a lot of time. If they are heavily embellished then that costs money. So they may or may not be expensive in the end.

If you think you could make them for less then why not have a go?

I agree with everything Pammy said.

Can you flash the ones you've been quoted for, as I can then perhaps give you an insight into what's involved in making them and components that may have upped the price. I don't think it's fair that people reply saying "that's far too expensive - mine were 100 for £8 on ebay" -It's not cut and dry like that!

Mine cost £4ish per invitation and that was only materials, as I made my own. They also too weeks! In total I think I spent over 30 hours on it. If I'd paid myself the minimum wage for that, then added on cost of materials, you can get a better idea of why the cost may be what it is.

It's all just a matter of opinion and how it fits in with your budgets, your day, your own time, etc. I've seen some shockingly expensive handmade invites at wedding fayres that were, frankly, atrocious. I've seen some shockingly expensive ready made (Yes, John Lewis, I mean you....)and very boring invites that I would be quite disappointed to receive!

I've also seen some amazing handmade ones that people have flashed on here that are just phenomenal, and often very cost effective (although, as already said, remember the cost of materials and time!), but I have neither the time nor the creativity to get anything that good made by my own fair hand! I will be ordering mine from Debenhams. They are expensive, but we saw them by chance and both said "that's exactly what we want" so therefore part of their "value" or "worth" is the way that they made us both feel.

If you like the invites, and you can afford them, and they bring a smile to your face as you write the envelopes etc, then there is nothing wrong with having them. Some will think they are expensive, some will think they are reasonable. But then everyone spends vastly different amounts on their dresses, or their flowers, or their hen do's so why should invites be different?

To help balance the cost - people from our workplaces who are invited to the evening but probably won't attend will get invites taken from a pack of 10 from paperchase.....?

I'm on a really tight budget, went into Poundland found beautiful white and silver invitation and thank you cards and cake boxes for £1 per 10, organza bags in silver, favor boxes butterfly cut out and metal charm. To customize the invites I bought hammered white paper at 12p a sheet plus embellishments most from Poundland and spent a total of £70 for 100 guests in total, yes it took time but I found it fun and knowing that I had what I wanted under my control was a great relief. Hope this helps good luck

I paid £41 for 50 postcard style invites for our elopement party, I designed them on vista print using our wedding photos and I'm really happy with them (although they haven't arrived yet - ordered yesterday!) The price included paying extra for thicker card and quick delivery, envelopes were also included.

It really does depend on style, quality of both invitation & envelope, handmade or printed in batches.

We got 3 samples of the same style invitations i.e. chequebook style & as you would expect, the better quality & handmade ones were more expensive than the rest. However, my OH & I firmly believe that this sets the whole tone of your wedding, its possibly the first thing your guests will receive from you on your wedding (unless of course you've sent Save The Dates).

Personal preference as to how much you want / are willing to spend.

I think that's extortionate! Look on www.brideandgroomdirect.co.uk I got mine from there and they were lovely. They were much cheaper than this and they do matching items. In hindsight, I wish I had just sent out really cheap ones as they will be thrown away and I haven't matched anything in the wedding to them x

    That made me think 'oooosh'...

But then again, those figures would be so beyond my budget, I plan on feeding everyone for less (that's if you have 100 invites etc. to buy).

If you love them and can afford them then go for it, if not, then there are squillions of other affordable options out there!

STAMPS! How much have you lot had to fork out for stamps? How much is a stamp nowadays? I may have to hand-deliver them!!!

As the other have echoed... If you love them and have the budget, go for it.

I know I'm not the cheapest stationery out there and I'm by no means the most expensive but it's the best materials and the time taken to make each one that costs.

A lot of man hours go into invitations/stationery and I can't number the amount of people who started to make theirs, not realising how much time they actually take and end up coming to me.

Have what you want! It's your wedding after all and may only be a once in a life time thing...

    xx

It's too expensive for me. There's no way we would have been able to afford that. In the end we made our own 'Save The Dates' which cost us £60 for all the materials; stamp, ink, card, envelopes, sticker seals etc.
We've placed an order for our invites, table names and part of our table plan and order of the days off of a guy on eBay all in all we're looking at about £200.

It all depends on the style, embellishments etc really as some have said the more materials used the more it will cost, and then you're paying for the time it takes to make them. Some people are just extortionate though!

If you love them and can comfortably afford them then go for it! Its all about what you like Smiley smile

I paid £2.75 per card style invitation with a textured envelope. RSVPs and info cards were £1 extra each but we decided we didn't need them. If we had more guests I might have shopped around more, but we only needed nine invitations.

ETA cos it's driving me mad: what we are all talking about here is stationEry. StationAry means not moving. Sorry to be a pedant.
