How much money to give as wedding present?

Hi all

I'm more of a regular on baby talk but wondered if you girlies could help answer a question.

We're invited to the evening reception of a friend next week and they've asked for money towards their honeymoon/house. Trouble is, it's been over 7 years since I got married so I've lost track of the going rate. How much do you reckon is reasonable? I've known her for a couple of years (met through a baby club) and I used to see her every week but don't see her much anymore due to our work days clashing but we still keep in regular contact.

For an evening reception I would give £20-30. If its a swanky do then maybe a bit more.

I would give £50 from us as a couple, for an evening reception.

For the evening do we went to, we gave $40 towards their honeymoon which I think was £30 ish.

I agree on about £25-30 for an evening party.

I'd give £30 for evening and £50 for day, but it also depends who the person is, for a very close firend I gave £100 for the day...

Can I ask everyone, when you say how much you would give, is that you on your own (i.e. you'd give £30 and your OH would give £30) or is it from you as a couple?

For an evening do £30.00 as a couple - if they are a close friend having a small wedding but a big party i'd give £50.00 as a couple.
