How not to cry during my speech?

Lauren, 23 July, 2022 at 17:31 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 2
My fiancé and I are having an untraditional wedding, with a ceremony on the Thursday with just our parents in attendance before a garden party on the Saturday with our nearest and dearest.

My fiancé isn’t planning on giving a speech at the party, other than to say thank you for coming. I’d like to give a speech though. My issue though is that I am super emotional and guaranteed to cry during. I’ve already cried whilst drafting my speech (very organised of me to be writing it already 😅)
Does anyone have any tips for not crying during the speech please? A few tears are fine, but I want to avoid the emotional voice wobbles! Thank you x

I would suggest practicing it a lot! As you say you are crying whilst writing it so I wonder if you will get less emotional each time you read it as you get used to the words.

I agree with Hayley that you might get less emotional with practice. Also, notice when you are reading it if there is a particular area that makes you well up and maybe think about rewriting or skipping that bit.
