How realistic was the wedding of Michael and Apollonia in the Godfather?

I'm just curious, about the walk from the church, and the gathering afterward that looks like it takes place in a small town square kind of area where they have the first dance, etc? Is this just Hollywood at its best, or are weddings of the time, in the area, conducted like this?
